Happy Landings for Chanel! Adoption follow up.
Here’s a beautiful update in the adopter’s (Marc) words.
We moved to Florida 3 1/2 years ago with our two senior beagle mixes. Violet wanted to adopt a female dog, preferably a pittie. I felt that two dogs were enough, but I was out voted. We adopted a young female pittie named Darby. She gets along with the boys and is a joy.
Violet also wanted to volunteer at a shelter and we signed up at Satchel’s. While at a Satchel’s event, Violet introduced me to Chanel. She felt that she would be a perfect
companion for our new female Pittie, Darby. To me, it seemed unlikely that all these personalities would work out, but after a couple of “meet and greets”, I agreed to foster Chanel as a trial. We were advised to crate her for a while as she adjusted to her new (and somewhat chaotic) family. She came into the house with three other dogs and seemed at home immediately. We had a crate which we set up in a back bedroom with a queen size bed and two dog beds. Everything was available for Chanel and she chose the queen bed. For one week she went happily to bed in her private suite, and came out in the morning for breakfast with the gang. Days involved morning walks, lounging by the pool, and running in the yard. Chanel interacted effortlessly with all the dogs. After a week, Chanel abandoned the private bedroom and joined the pack at night. All four dogs have their own beds in our master bedroom, and freely switch beds and sleep buddies.
After a day, Chanel, and Darby (our young female) started to share a lounge chair at the pool. After fifty hours of “foster” we signed the adoption papers.
Our family is now complete and the couch is very crowded in the evening.
