Boxer / Mixed (short coat)
Male

Allman is the definition of a Boxer, from his looks to his personality traits! This 5-year-old boy is always looking for opportunity to play, and loves making everything a game. He is a great ball player and may not always bring it back, but his enthusiasm keeps the game going. He enjoys carrying toys around wherever he goes, squeaky toys are super fun, but Kong toys are also wonderful. Like most Boxers, he also enjoys Boxing with his people, jumping up and giving a light two paw pounce. He also has a prankster side with shoes and likes to untie your laces when you are walking. He is loyal to his friends here at Satchel's but can be a bit picky. He takes a little time to get to know people and, although he is high energy, he prefers a calm first-time meeting. Once accepted, Allman is a loving, playful, intelligent boy who can't wait to be with you. He walks very well on a leash and loves going on adventures. He knows his basic commands and with treats, he can do them with a swiftness. Allman would be the perfect canine companion for someone who loves being active or has a love for and understanding of the Boxer breed. He would do well with a fenced in yard, or multiple walks to get some of the energy down. If you love the Boxer breed, please consider coming to Satchel's Last Resort to say hello to Allman, this beautiful boy could be what you've been looking for all along! For an appointment to meet Allman, please submit the adoption application (no commitment) found on our website, www.satchelslastresort.org, and an adoption counselor will be in touch.

Looking for a handsome stud muffin with the best smile in town? Well look no further, our buddy Andi is not only easy on the eyes with his white and grey coat but his smile is enough to brighten anyone's day! This fun loving and outgoing boy loves to play and have a good time. He adores having all kinds of toys, though can be a little rough with the stuffed squeaky ones. He is extremely loving and wishes only to spend time with those he loves. When you join his circle, there is no better greeting than from Andi, he always let's you know how much he cares by leg leans, playful jumping and kisses. He is a big supporter of leisurely strolls and walks very well on leash. He does get distracted a bit, wanting to catch lizards he finds here and there, but listens when it's time to rest. He is an excellent car rider, and with that giant smile and ears flopping in the wind, you can't resist sharing that happiness. This gentle soul does need patience when meeting him the first time or two, since his trust is not so easy to gain. He is protective of the people he cares most about and would do anything for them. He also is not the fondest of other dogs and would prefer to be your main squeeze rather than share. There is so much love in Andi's heart and we here at Satchel's Last Resort would love for you to take the time to also get to know this amazing canine and his brilliant smile! For an appointment to meet Andi, please submit the adoption application (no commitment) found on our website, www.satchelslastresort.org, and an adoption counselor will be in touch.

Are you are looking for a muscle-bound man with a sensitive side or a "bro" to go jogging with? Let me introduce you to Atilla. This charming boy knows his basic commands. We are working with his leash skills as he is currently a bit of a puller. He loves to be with his people so much, that it doesn't seem that he knows he is a dog. He will need to be an only four-legged child as he does not seem to care for other dogs or cats. He loves the pool and would benefit from an active home. He loves toys and has a very gentle mouth with people. While he has a lot of energy, he is also content to cuddle up and be loved. For an appointment to meet 4 year old Atilla, please submit the adoption application (no commitment) found on our website, www.satchelslastresort.org, and an adoption will be in touch.

Young, free, and full of spirit, Bailey is an adorable one and a half year old fire cracker! Seemingly shy when you first meet her, she soon pops out of her shell to show an energetic pup. She is a sight to see when she gets her zoomies going around the yard, leaping with joy to feel the sunshine. With so much energy, this little girl loves going on walks with our wonderful volunteers. When playtime ends outside, she likes to play with her stuffed toys inside, soon after curling up for a quiet nap. Since Bailey is still very young, she is still in need of training. She is very willing to learn, and sits on a dime for a treat. She has made a few canine friends here at Satchel's and has the potential to be a best bud with a family in need of an addition. This sweet girl would love to show you just how much she could light up your life. For an appointment to meet Bailey, please submit the adoption application (no commitment) found on our website, www.satchelslastresort.org and an adoption counselor will be in touch.

* SPECIAL NEEDS - ANXIETY * Bernie is an interesting little fellow with enough quirks to keep you guessing for a life time. He comes off as very shy but he loves to meet people. When he knows his favorite volunteers are at Satchel's, you can guarantee Bernie will let them know with an excited bark and stretches saying "it's time to go!" He is a big explorer and the longer the walk the better, though sometimes he doesn't want to come back, and will stop and sit in protest. He adores running and traveling so if you take morning jogs, train for marathons, or travel across country, Bernie would be your perfect partner. He is gentle with his toys, and has no problem sharing his things with you. Bernie loves all life and has only shown adoration or curiosity with whatever comes his way. He is also a BIG time water dog, playing in the pool, splashing in a puddle, or even attempting to cool off in his water bowl, H2O is the way to go! Bernie could likely live with another dog and/or cat quite comfortably. Although not a big boy, Bernie is a fence jumper/climber and can scale a 6 foot fence without hesitation making leaving him alone in a yard for even a few minutes not an option. Bernie suffers with a severe anxiety disorder. He takes medication for his anxiety but still has panic attacks from time to time. He is looking for a home with a patient, loving family who will be there to help him through the "bad" times. Just 4 years old, with so much love to give, this amazing pup is just waiting for that special person who will keep him feeling safe and loved. If you think you have the time and patience to give Bernie his forever home, please submit the adoption application (no commitment) found on our website, www.satchelslastresort.org, and an adoption counselor will set up an appointment for you to meet this special boy.

** SPECIAL NEEDS - STRANGER DANGER ** Hi, I'm Brittany and I don't much care for strangers. I see all strangers as a potential threat and it takes me quite some time to accept new people into my world. However, once I do I love to spend time with you and have my belly rubbed. I love car rides and will just sleep in the back seat or sit nicely looking out of the window. I don't want to share my food and would prefer you leave me alone while eating. I'm looking for an adopter who understands the need to gain my trust and is willing to visit and wait until the time is right to take me home. Brittany is estimated to be approximately 8 years old and weighs around 50 lbs. For an appointment to meet her, please email info@satchelslastresort.org or call 941-924-5070.

Eight-year Cesar is more like a spud than a salad. His daily routine is more focused around relaxation practices in the “couch potato” position than anything. He’s got the personality of a surfer, everything is just chill and he likes a slow paced life. He’s the type of guy who doesn’t kiss until the second date. As any good man, Cesar will let you know when someone’s at the door, when it’s time for dinner and when it’s time for bed. You don’t have to worry about spending too much money on toys for him, he’d rather just spend time with you, getting comfort from his people is the best. Cesar has lived with dogs in the past. For an appointment to meet Cesar, please submit the adoption application (no commitment) found on our website, www.satchelslastresort.org, and an adoption counselor will get back to you.

Young
Meet Chewie! Chewie is a sweet, sensitive 1 1/2 year-old boy who joined our Satchel’s family recently when his family could no longer care for him. As a puppy growing up during the Covid-19 lockdown, Chewie had a lot to learn about the world around him and our staff and volunteers eagerly began socializing him with walks and car rides. As a strong puller and energetic dog, Chewie really enjoys long walks and is working on exploring as many county parks as possible with his Woof Pack Leader. He loves to sit in the front passenger seat in the car watching the world go by or to stretch out in the back seat with a favorite squeaky toy. Chewie can be a little shy meeting people at first but once he knows you, he is very affectionate and loves to cuddle. Chewie previously lived in a household with another dog, a cat and two children ages 10 and 14. Although we have not tested him with other dogs or cats yet, it is possible he may be able to go home with a canine or feline companion. If you would like to meet Chewie, please fill out an adoption application (no obligation) at www.satchelslastresort.org, and an adoption counselor will be in touch.

* Medical Special Needs * Meet Crystal. What do you see when you look at Crystal? An overbred momma dog? A dog that had a horrible person chop off her ears? A dog that was left inside a crate at an abandoned property? You know what we see? Unconditional love, this girl wants affection and love so badly. She craves to be told she is a good girl, a warm leg to lean on. She is beautiful to us both inside and out. You will see that too when you come meet her and give her a chance. She enjoys a bath and belly rub, hugs and a romp in the yard but her favorite thing to do is hang out with people who love her.  Sometimes it will take her a little while to warm up to new people, but the wait is so worth it. She is just a big love bug. She is not fond of other dogs. She can go for walks with them but not exist together in a house or come face to face. She is obsessed with cats so if you are interested in her, you can't have any of those either. She does have cancer (cutaneous hemangiosarcoma). It manifests itself with sores and blood blisters on her stomach and these will pop occasionally and bleed. Eventually the disease will go to her spleen. Her survival can be a few years with this type of cancer by the time it has spread to the spleen. Are you the person to love and provide care for Crystal for her remaining years? If so, please email adoptions@satchelslastresort.org or call 941-924-5070 for an appointment to meet her.

Funny-faced Greta has been with Satchel's for only the last couple of weeks. She was surrendered when her prior home could no longer care for her. She may resemble a gremlin or a gargoyle but she will be the sweetest little monster you may ever meet. When she arrived she had skin, eye, and ear infections. We quickly got her the care she needed and she is becoming more beautiful every day. She may come off as shy at first, but give her a little time and her silly personality will quickly come to light. She begs for attention by doing a little dance. She is almost impossible to ignore. She did not seem to know how to walk on a leash when she arrived and we are still working on this. Greta is approximately a 9-year-old Shih Tzu hoping to find the forever home that she deserves. *SPECIAL NEEDS - TRIPOD* Hi, I'm Ilean. It's been a couple of years since I lost my canine "big brother" and I really wish I could find a family of my own now please. Wilbur and I were in a home together and then came to Satchel's together many, many, years ago. Wilbur took care of me since I was a little puppy. I'm now looking for human companionship with a new family.   I may only have 3 legs but that doesn't slow me down much. I have a ton of energy and happily bounce around on my 3 legs. I love my walks, although I am slowing down in my old age and can no longer walk very far. I enjoy playing fetch with the ball (although I don't necessarily bring it back to you every time, I just want you to come and get it from me), and absolutely love love love jumping in the water in the tubs we have here at Satchel's. And, of course, car rides are high on my list. Belly rubs are great and I'm sure I would enjoy lounging around with you given the opportunity.   Wilbur was the only dog I ever wanted in my life so I'm looking for a home with no other dogs (or for that matter, no other 4 legged species). Do you have the perfect home for me where I will be showered with love and kisses throughout my senior years, please, please?? I'm waiting...   Ilean is 12 years old and weighs approximately 50 lbs. Love those ears! If you're looking for a senior girl (10 years old) who wants nothing more than to hang out with you all day, Loca just may be the girl for you! Her foster parents call Loca their Velcro girl. She came to Satchel's crate trained, staying in the crate while mom worked all day. No crate is needed in the foster home. When mom and dad leave her for a few hours, she is free to roam in the home and nothing is touched. When they return home, she finds one of her strong chew toys or ropes and greets them by doing some zoomies. Loca may have been crated at bedtime as she still runs into the crate for her treat after her evening walk but in her foster home, she shares the bed with mom and dad. Loca loves car rides and would be happy to run daily errands with you. Want to do some TV binge watching? No worries, Loca will sleep for hours beside you. Sunning herself on the lanai while you enjoy your morning coffee outside makes for a happy girl. Loca knows basic commands and listens well. She is a little uncertain when meeting new people but a treat always does the trick. Although Loca has lived with dogs in the past, she is looking to be your only four-legged love please. She's really quite perfect for someone looking for a loyal companion.   This girl is truly a lover, often giving you a kiss just to say hi. Whatdoyousay? Do you think Loca may be the girl for you? Lucy is a sweet, gentle senior Beagle around the age of fourteen who would love to find a place in your heart to call home. She is very quiet for your average Beagle, unless she asks for food or to go outside, but she always does this politely. She is quite the food hound, always looking for her next snack, though for now, we have her on a diet to help her shed some of the extra love she received at her last home. Lucy is loved by so many of our volunteers and has become a favorite of all our Beagle lovers. She is very smart and knows a few commands and is an expert in catching midair treats. She enjoys car rides, hanging out in the air conditioning, though she does need assistance getting into the car. Her arthritis can take its toll on her day to day, but she tries hard every day to go where she wants. We would all love to see Lucy find her furever home, with a nice cushy place for her to rest and enjoy being the amazing senior lady she is, please stop by and see this sweet face for yourself! * SPECIAL NEEDS - PROTECTIVE, STRANGER DANGER * Hey there I'm Mickey! I'm an 9 year old boy. Some of my best friends could tell you just how loyal and loveable I truly am. I'm so loyal that when around my favorite people, I want to protect them. I would love someone who will keep me as active as my age would allow, as I do love to go for walks and even love to swim! Stranger danger is a term that my friends might use to describe me but it's really because when I love you, I want to protect you and my space from other people! I would want to protect you even from your friends, so keep in mind I would likely need my own room of a big comfy crate to hang out in if you have company over. I could potentially live with another submissive dog, but we would have to meet and form a friendship first. I would be best in a home with no kids. My favorite activities include exploring new places (where they're aren't many people), swimming in safe places (even a kiddie pool) and going on car rides! I also love to get pet and receive love from my best friends. I am working with my Woof Pack leader and am able to get out of the shelter and explore from time to time. I would want to meet you a few times before I would be comfortable with you, but if you give me treats, throw my toys for me, and come on a few walks, I'm sure we would become great friends. I really hope you'll come meet me, and don't mind that I require a little patience. Hope to meet you soon! Love, Mickey *Mickey has extreme protective tendencies and would need to be in a home where no one comes in and out of the home without a careful introduction. It will take several visits to the shelter for Mickey to feel comfortable with you.

Meet Millie. After being trapped to catch by Sarasota County Animal Services, Millie found herself a terrified little girl who spent her time huddled in the corner of the kennel. SCAS reached out to Satchel's to see if she would be a candidate for our Rescue Rehab Rehome program knowing we give our animals all the time they need to learn to trust. Millie has been with us for several months working with her Woof Pack leader Judy. Her progress is slow but she is starting to enjoy the time out of her kennel with Judy. She will now let Judy give her belly rubs and will walk to the end of our long driveway. Millie is looking for a quiet home with few people coming and going. She could possibly benefit from a canine companion to make her feel more comfortable. Judy will continue to work with Millie, giving her all the time she needs but if you feel you have the time and patience to help this young girl learn to trust again, please submit the adoption application (no commitment) found on our website, www.satchelslastresort.org, and an adoption counselor will set up an appointment for you to meet her. Rottweiler (short coat)

Meet Nalah. Nalah has that cute Rottweiler wiggly butt. She is a happy gal who sometimes shows some age related stiffness in her back end, otherwise you would never guess this active girl is eight years of age. Occasionally, she has been known to show some attitude if she does not get her way (especially at the vet). For this reason, we recommend her for an adult-only home. Nalah recently started treatment for heartworm disease and is looking for a quiet foster-to-adopt home for the next few months until her treatment is complete. For an appointment to meet Nalah, please submit the adoption application (no commitment) found on our website, www.satchelslastresort.org, and an adoption counselor will be in touch.

Peppy is ready to move on to her forever home! Satchel's rescued Peppy from animal services in the fall of 2017. This poor girl was a starvation case and learning to trust people initially came a little hard for her. Thanks to our caring staff and volunteers, she is now able to live her life again, without constant fear of being abandoned or mistreated. Peppy has a Woof Pack leader here at Satchel's helping her learn some basic social skills and introducing her to the outside world. She would do best in an adult only home and does appear to get along with other dogs. Peppy has recurring ear infections and needs a visit to the vet every few months months to have them cleaned under sedation as she doesn't like anyone messing with her ears. Peppy is estimated to be 7 years old and weighs approximately 50 lbs. For an appointment to meet her, please email adoptions@satchelslastresort.org or call 941-924-5070.

Piper is a sweet girl who lacks confidence. She is shy at first and will need a brief intro before she is willing to open herself up to you. Once she does, she is very affectionate and loves to cuddle. Piper was previously adopted from a county shelter to be a companion for another dog but, unfortunately, her rough play was too much for the other dog in the household and she found her way to Satchel's. She could live in a home with another dog who is better suited to her playstyle. We also feel that she could live with a cat. She enjoys walks and spending time with her people. Piper is working with her Woof Pack leader to learn some basic social skills and be introduced to the outside world. She would be best suited for an adult-only home. Piper is 2 years old and weighs approximately 50 lbs. For an appointment to meet Piper, please submit the adoption application (no commitment) found on our website, www.satchelslastresort.org, and an adoption counselor will be in touch.

Ronnie the Rottie is a happy guy that has the cutest wiggly butt. His whole body moves when he wags his nub, greeting everyone with an equal amount of enthusiasm. He was found stray by animal services. Ronnie had some eye issues when he arrived at Satchel's but that is clearing up nicely. He loves walks and butt scratches. Ronnie has a Woof Pack leader here at Satchel's helping him learn some basic social skills and introducing him to the outside world. We are, at this time, unsure if Ronnie could live in a home with another dog. He seems interested in other dogs, but we have not successfully paired him up with another canine companion. He is not a fan of cats. Ronnie is best suited for an adult-only home. Ronnie is guessed to be 5 years old and weighs approximately 80 lbs. For an appointment to meet him, please submit the adoption application (no commitment) found on our website, www.satchelslastresort.org, and an adoption counselor will be in touch.

* MEDICAL SPECIAL NEEDS - DISTEMPTER SURVIVOR * Scarlett is a most precious resident at Satchels, she is adored by all who see her smile. Scarlett had distemper as a puppy which has resulted in life long neurological issues. That means nothing to her, Scarlett is a spunky heartthrob. She’s quirky, loves other animals and people. With her condition she has a special way of communicating and is always up for a chatter. In her previous home we were told she was picked on by the other pups but her she has come out of her shell and she is running with the best of them! A bigger, older puppy would be the perfect playmate for her as she sometimes plays with her mouth. An adult only home would be best for Scarlett since her talking can sometimes be a little rambunctious. She does require help with potty training and needs a home where someone is home most of the time. She hasn’t caught the hang of how to sit or those basics yet, but she will come to you quicker than anyone you know and listens very well to no! Once you see her spinning with joy for you, you won’t want to spend another day without her! Scarlett is 3 years old and weighs approximately 45 lbs. For an appointment to meet her, please submit the adoption application (no commitment) found on our website, www.satchelslastresort.org, and an adoption counselor will be in touch.

* SPECIAL NEEDS: STRANGER DANGER. Tonka is an incredibly energetic girl who is very eager to please. While she can be excitable, she wants nothing more than attention from those she loves. She can be a little leery of strangers but once she trusts you she will win your heart with her giant ears and exuberant personality. Tonka knows basic commands and walks well on the leash once her initial excitement over the prospect of going for a walk diminishes. Her absolute favorite toy is a Jolly Ball Romp-and-roll which she can swing around for hours. Once playtime is over, she easily settles down for a cuddle. Tonka would do well in an active home with structured training. She will require an adult only home where she can be the only four-legged member.  Tonka is 9 years old. For an appointment to meet her, please email adoptions@satchelslastresort.org or call 941-924-5070.

Handsome Tucker! Tucker is extremely smart and knows all his obedience commands. He loves to learn and be rewarded so continued training in a home can be made a fun and happy time. He's rides well in a car and is always excited when it's his turn for a car ride. Once the initial excitement of a walk is over, Tucker walks well on leash and enjoys a nice long walk. He is young boy with a lot of energy and would do best if he had a yard in which to run and play or some type of doggie sports such as agility or fly ball to keep him mentally and physically challenged. He enjoys the kiddie pools at the shelter and would likely enjoy swimming. He has a canine girlfriend at the shelter and would enjoy a canine sibling. Once play time is over, he's happy to snuggle with you. Tucker is estimated to be approximately 3 years old. For an appointment to meet him, please email adoptions@satchelslastresort.org or call 941-924-5070.

* SPECIAL NEEDS - SOME STRANGER DANGER * Look at this handsome boy! Watson is a big boy who just wants to be a dog. He's an interesting dog in that he loves some people at first site and others not so much so introducing him to strangers can be a little difficult. He would do best in a home with low traffic where he can get to know and trust the people coming through his territory. Watson is strong minded and needs a dog savy person. He likes to sit on your lap and is very affectionate but he doesn't care to be smothered in any way or have people in his face. He likes to play with ropes and chewy toys and sits like a perfect gentleman in the car. This boy is looking for someone to bond with who understands him. He'll be your loyal companion for life if you're the one for him. Watson is guessed to be 6 years old and weighs approximately 70 lbs. Exuberant Xavier. This sweet 9-year-old cuddle bug is nothing but happy. He lives his life by the motto “dogs just wanna have fun” and by golly he’s not gonna let anything stop him. Xavier is the life of the party, he’s a chatty little thing who always has something to say in excitement or protest! With that being said, an apartment or somewhere he has to be quiet would not be ideal. Half pit and half lab, he’s got the lab mentality. Everyone is his bestfriend and he is SO excited to go wherever you wanna go but loud noises (especially trains) are scary. Xavier just wants to be held, loved and fed. He cuddles all of his siblings like he’s their only source of warmth. He lives to please you, anything to get a treat! He does love to run out the front door when he isn’t properly exercised, we are working very hard on that. Daily walks or bike rides are helpful and so are treats by the door. A full fenced yard in front and back would be the best, he does require a tall wooden fence. Even at his age he can jump a chain link and will if he’s excited enough. Xavier’s start to life for the first year was in a small bedroom locked away while his family entertained guests and laughed; he could only hear them and cry. He was saved by a nice lady and her boyfriend, boyfriend passed away and the nice lady was going to euthanize him..so a staff member snatched him up to make sure nothing bad could happen to him ever again. He previously lived with a very old grumpy doggy so he takes social cues very well! He does currently live with 2 other dogs and 5 rodents (though he’s very curious, he is not allowed to be out with the small animals). Cats are a big no for Xavier. He was raised with 2 human boys; older children are best. He is crate trained and needs to be crated when you’re away from the home but he’s gonna complain about it for a little bit so you know how unfair it is!
