Meet Azalea! This girl is looking for a quiet home where she can spend her retirement years. Azalea enjoys nice long walks to give her the exercise she needs. She loves to swim in the pool and then sunbathe on the deck. She isn't too fond of other animals and would do best in a home where she is the only 4-legged member. Azalea can sometimes be a little aloof when she first meets you but warms up quickly and will be your friend for life if you give her belly rubs and back scratches. Looking for a TV watching companion? Azalea will be happy to share your couch. Azalea is estimated to be approximately 10 years old and weighs about 50 pounds. ** SPECIAL NEEDS - STRANGER DANGER ** Hi, I'm Brittany and I don't much care for strangers. I see all strangers as a potential threat and it takes me quite some time to accept new people into my world. However, once I do I love to spend time with you and have my belly rubbed. I love car rides and will just sleep in the back seat or sit nicely looking out of the window. I don't want to share my food and would prefer you leave me alone while eating. I'm looking for an adopter who understands the need to gain my trust and is willing to visit and wait until the time is right to take me home. Brittany is estimated to be approximately 6 years old and weighs around 50 lbs. For an appointment to meet her, please email info@satchelslastresort.org or call 941-924-5070.

*SPECIAL NEEDS* Happy Holidays from Brooke! Brooke is a very sweet, healthy, loving mixed breed and is looking for a loving, forever, family with whom to spend all the holidays to come. This loving girl has been at the shelter for many years and wants nothing more than to chill with her very own person. She's estimated to be 8-9 years young but is full of energy and is looking for someone to spend time playing with her and taking her for long walks. She loves to play with toys and run around in the yard. She is a people lover and kisses are abundant. Brooke does not care for other dogs and is looking to be your only 4 legged lover. If you're looking for a loving, active, senior to be your best friend and have no other dogs, Brooke would love to meet you. I'm Carson and I'm a fun loving boy! I love playing with toys and playing ball is my absolute favorite. I'm very agile and will leap through the air to catch the ball. The people here say I'm "a rambunctious boy". I think that just means I'm full of energy and need lots of exercise. I'm currently working on my basic obedience and leash walking skills with a wonderful volunteer. I am a strong puller on leash and it'll take time for me to get this slow moving stuff but I'm eager to please and I'm trying hard. Do you have time to continue my training and spend time playing with me to release my energy? If so, please come and visit me - I'd love to show you my skills in the yard. Carson is guessed to be about 6 yeas old and weighs approximately 60 lbs. For an appointment to meet Carson, please email info@satchelslastresort.org or call 941-924-5070.

* SPECIAL NEEDS - NERVOUS AROUND NEW PEOPLE * This girl was rescued by a wonderful couple off the streets of Yangon, Burma as a puppy. Charlee tolerates most dogs but would prefer to be the only dog in the household. She can be a bit nervous of new people, studying you until she decides you are okay, and is hand shy. She warms up quickly especially if you have a cookie that she really likes but she can be particular on the type. She may have gotten a bit spoiled here at Satchels with our wide variety of donated goodies. It may take someone a couple of visits to see Charlee's true personality. She loves to sun herself and roll around in the yard. She is a low key girl but does have her moments of excitement. She loves stuffed toys especially if they make sounds. She also enjoys walks but is a bit nervous of new situations and does not like getting in the car. Charlee is approximately 9 years old and weighs around 50 lbs. For an appointment to meet Charlee, please email info@satchelslastresort.org or call 941-924-5070.

*SPECIAL NEEDS: SEPARATION ANXIETY* Cookie here. Satchel's rescued me several years ago and helped me raise my puppies. My puppies all found homes and Satchel's became my home. It's okay here and the people are great but I would so love a home to call my own and my very own people to love me. I'm an energetic girl and would do best in a home where I am included in the activities of the home. I love to run around the yard playing or go for nice long walks. I did have some separation anxiety when I was caring for my puppies and I'm not sure how it would affect me in a home, so I really need a home with someone who will help me work through any anxiety I have. I can also be an escape artist if I want to be - jumping fences to look for my people if I'm left alone. I am getting older now and haven't jumped a fence for a while but it would be best not to leave me alone in the yard. I love people and make friends with everyone I meet. People here say I'm a lover. Are you looking for a lover? If so, please come and meet me... Cookie is considered one of our special needs fur babies because we are unsure how severe her separation anxiety might be in a home. She weighs approximately 50 lbs and is guessed to be approximately 8 years old. For an appointment to meet Cookie, please email adoptions@satchelslastresort.org or call 941-924-5070.

He's a little uncertain of new people and does take a little time to warm up but once he knows you're a friend, he's an absolute lover. He is good with some dogs and loves to run and play in the yard with his kennel mate. Cooper has spent very little, if any, time in a home and needs a patient, loving, adopter to teach him house manners and show him what a loving home is all about. Are you the person he's been waiting for all this time? Cooper is 6 years old and weighs 50-55 lbs. For an appointment to meet him, please email info@satchelslastresort.org or call 941-924-5070.

** Medical Special Needs ** Meet Crystal. What do you see when you look at Crystal? An overbred momma dog? A dog that had a horrible person chop off her ears? A dog that was left inside a crate at an abandoned property? You know what we see? Unconditional love, this girl wants affection and love so badly. She craves to be told she is a good girl, a warm leg to lean on. She is beautiful to us both inside and out. You will see that too when you come meet her and give her a chance. She enjoys a bath and belly rub, hugs and a romp in the yard but her favorite thing to do is hang out with people who love her.  Sometimes it will take her a little while to warm up to new people, but the wait is so worth it. She is just a big love bug. She is not fond of other dogs. She can go for walks with them but not exist together in a house or come face to face. She is obsessed with cats so if you are interested in her, you can't have any of those either. She does have cancer (cutaneous hemangiosarcoma). It manifests itself with sores and blood blisters on her stomach and these will pop occasionally and bleed. Eventually the disease will go to her spleen. Her survival can be a few years with this type of cancer by the time it has spread to the spleen. Are you the person to love and provide care for Crystal for her remaining years? If so, please email adoptions@satchelslastresort.org or call 941-924-5070 for an appointment to meet her.

My will to live got me through 3 surgeries, extensive rehabilitation from my leg amputation and heartworm treament. Yes, they say I'm a "senior". I don't buy that. I love to run around the yard and have you chase me or just roll around in the grass if you're too tired. I have a heart condition and will be on medication for the remainder of my life but that doesn't slow me down either. I love car rides and just chill in the back seat. I also love to cuddle - they call me a "love bug" -  so will be happy to spend some time snuggling with you on the couch after our day is done. Harley is so ready to find his forever family! At five years old, Harley has grown up at Satchel’s and has become a volunteer favorite. Harley is incredibly smart and loves having a job and learning new skills. He recently completed 6 weeks of agility training and just began attending weekly doggie playgroup sessions at a local dog training studio. Harley is sweet and affectionate, adores car rides and meeting new people. He enjoys exploring the outdoors, especially fenced-in back yards so he can chase lizards and bugs. He would do best in an adult, dog savvy household, and he would love a large female canine companion! No cats or small dogs though, please. In order for Harley to continue enjoying his doggie playgroup sessions after adoption, LEADSRQ, is sponsoring Harley with a $300 training package at K9 Korral. Thank you LEADSRQ! Howard here. Everyone tells me what a handsome boy I am and I'm really hoping you have room in your home for a handsome guy. I like to play, give kisses and cuddle. I don't do too well walking on a leash - I like to pull - as I haven't had much experience in that area. Perhaps you can help me out with that? I am, however, a great car rider. Children tend to scare me so I do need a home with no little ones please. Howard weighs approximately 50 lbs and is guessed to be about 5 years old. *SPECIAL NEEDS - TRIPOD* Hi, I'm Ilean. It's been a couple of years since I lost my canine "big brother" and I really wish I could find a family of my own now please. Wilbur and I were in a home together and then came to Satchel's together many, many, years ago. Wilbur took care of me since I was a little puppy. I'm now looking for human companionship with a new family.   I may only have 3 legs but that doesn't slow me down much. I have a ton of energy and happily bounce around on my 3 legs. I love my walks, although I am slowing down in my old age and can no longer walk very far. I enjoy playing fetch with the ball (although I don't necessarily bring it back to you every time, I just want you to come and get it from me), and absolutely love love love jumping in the water in the tubs we have here at Satchel's. And, of course, car rides are high on my list. Belly rubs are great and I'm sure I would enjoy lounging around with you given the opportunity.   Wilbur was the only dog I ever wanted in my life so I'm looking for a home with no other dogs (or for that matter, no other 4 legged species). Do you have the perfect home for me where I will be showered with love and kisses throughout my senior years, please, please?? I'm waiting...   Ilean is 10 years old and weighs approximately 50 lbs. Meet Jericho. Jericho was being tied to a tree in Satchel's front yard early one morning when spotted by a staff member. The story was that he belonged to a homeless girl that could no longer care for him. Whether that was the true story is anyone's guess but clearly this boy needed us. Jericho is guessed to be approximately 8 years old and weighs 75 lbs. He is extremely friendly with people but seems a little dog selective. With the proper introduction, he could perhaps live with another dog. He likes to play with his toys, either by himself or with you. He loves going for walks and is excellent on leash. ** MEDICAL SPECIAL NEEDS ** Hello friends, my name is Kelly. I am a very sweet girl who loves going for long strolls around the neighborhood and I don't mean to brag, but I am the best leash walker ever! I am quite the socialite and love being around people. If you were to take me home, you would be my world and I would want nothing more than to cozy up and cuddle next to you. Oh, and I don't really want to share you with any other four-legged being, so I do need to be your only baby please. I love going for car rides and am the perfect passenger. I can be a bit of a diva when it comes to my bed, but with my health, I can't help but feel entitled. Several months ago, I was diagnosed with kidney failure and am now getting fluids twice a week. My latest tests show that the fluids are doing their job and keeping me healthy. Now it's time for me to find my forever home with that special person who will continue to give me the fluids I need. It's not a problem to give them to me - I'm so used to it and am no trouble. P. S. You might have seen me around town with my friends from Satchel's Last Resort at our local events. I'm the one who wants all the attention. Kelly weighs approximately 55 lbs and is guessed to be 4 years old. *TRIPOD Lila came within an hour of losing her life - a girl with so much life yet to live. It was Sunday, September 15, when we received an urgent plea from a county shelter rescue team to save Lila's life. The plea stated she had an open femoral fracture and was in pain. The plea went on to say she was "very hard to handle, and even with sedation screams and lunges." The potential rescue needed to have a committed foster. It was Sunday, we needed time to discuss with our team and find a foster if our decision was to take her into our program. But no, Lila's time was up and she would die today if a rescue commitment was not made by 7 pm. Satchel's scrambling started, our team agreed we had to do whatever was possible for this girl, one of our regular fosters offered her home, and the call was made for a stay of execution for this poor baby. Lila became a member of the Satchel's family. Lila's limb couldn't be saved and surgery to remove her leg was performed. This little girl is shy and timid but we have seen none of the lunging or aggression towards her caregivers. Being in severe pain, as Lila was, can cause the reaction she displayed before her leg was amputated. She has been in her foster home recovering since and is now ready to move on out to a new forever home. Lila is guessed to be approximately 3 years old and weighs 40-45 lbs. She gets along with the other dogs in the foster home and ignores the cats. For an appointment to meet Lila, please email adoptions@satchelslastresort.org or call 941-924-5070. Lila is in a foster home and not at the shelter.

** Special Needs: Storm Phobia ** Lizzy came to us with her 8 puppies several years ago. She may not have had an easy start but she has such an incredible outlook on life. She has storm phobia, likely from being an outside dog, and gets anxious before a storm starts. She is looking for a loving, patient home to ease her anxiety during storms. Lizzy is an absolute lover. She adores people, especially children, and any attention they will give her. She's such a cuddler and loves to give kisses! In her younger years she was a bit of an escape artist and showed she could jump a 6 foot fence if there was something on the other side she wanted to get a closer look at. She enjoys walks and car rides - sitting in the passenger seat like a princess. This girl loves to play with toys and enjoys the pools here at Satchel's. She can get a little muddy having fun in the water and dirt, but doesn't mind her baths. Lizzy doesn't care for other animals and needs to be in a home as the only pet member of the family. He loves playing with his people - staff call him "a silly boy" as he tries so hard to get you to rough house and play with him. He doesn't want to share your attention and so would prefer to be the only pet in the home. Macho loves going on car rides and walks well on a leash. * SPECIAL NEEDS: STRANGER DANGER * Hi All! I'm Nicci. I'm a parvo survivor rescued from Sarasota County Animal Services when I was just a young girl less than a  year old. I've been here at Satchel's for way too long because I don't particular care for strangers and I haven't found that person who wants to take the time needed for me to trust them. Once you're in with me, I'm an absolute lover and just want to hang with you and snuggle. Staff and volunteers love me here but I know I'd blossom in a low key home. I like other dogs and am pretty submissive with them most of the time. I love to go for walks once I'm comfortable with my surroundings and like car rides as long as I don't have to get out and meet new people along the way. I love stuffed animals and big comfy blankets. I'm a playful, gentle girl and I love to roll around and tussle with friends. Nicci is 6 years old and weighs 55-60 lbs. Hey I'm Rosey and I'm looking for someone to love me for the rest of my days. I'm a senior girl at 11 years old but I still have a lot of spunk and so much love to give. I absolutely love people and wiggle my crooked little tail whenever anyone pays attention to me. On a hot summer day, I love playing with the water as it comes out of the hose. I like short walks but my most favorite thing to do is going for car rides. Car ride, car ride, car ride - YES PLEASE! I'll ride around with you all day if you'll let me. A canine companion is okay as long as they are nice to me and don't take the front passenger seat of the car as I do like to ride shot gun. Are you looking for a co-pilot, I'm here! Rosey is a laid back, easy going girl patiently waiting for her own bed in a loving home. For more information or to schedule an appointment to meet Rosey, please email adoptions@satchelslastresort.org or call 941-924-5070.

Hey everyone! Roxsanne here. All the staff and volunteers here at Satchel's tell me I'm a complete bundle of love and joy. I have nerve damage in my spine which has left me incontinent but I don't mind wearing diapers and I just lay there like a baby for you to put them on me. All the love I have to give to you, makes up for the slight inconvenience of changing my diaper a few times a day. I have lots of energy and like to take short walks. I'm looking for a home with someone who wants to hang out with me, sharing play time and showing me love while I snuggle with you. Roxsanne is guessed to be 8 years old and weighs 18 lbs. For an appointment to meet her, please email adoptions@satchelslastresort.org or call 941-924-5070.

Rumor is an active young dog who was born in January of 2015. She came to Satchels from animal services who found her as a stray. She loves attention and is very affectionate. She also loves to play with toys. We are currently working on her leash manners. She will require further training to make her the perfect dog. She does like to play with other dogs but should be the only canine in the family.  If you would like more information about Rumor, please call or email us.

Sandler is a great dog who has not had a lot of luck with owners in his life; and we are the third shelter he has called home, so he really needs someone who wants to spend time with him.  It is estimated that he was born in September 2010 and he weighs 55 lbs. He is a jumper and can’t be left alone in a yard (he’ll play with you, though, if you’ll stay with him), but he’d be perfect for someone who wants a walking or running mate. He got along with other dogs when he first entered shelter life, so he may once again – and he’d do best in an adult only household.  When it comes to adults, he loves them though.  He has become a favorite of all the volunteers at the shelter.  If there is more than one volunteer helping out during a shift, there is almost a fight about who will get to take Sandler out.  That is how great he is!

Hi Everyone, Tank here! I've been at Satchel's for a while now, likely because I don't act very friendly behind the bars of my kennel. Satchel's rescued me and provided the heartworm treatment I needed to survive. Out of my kennel, I am a different boy. I spend overnights with one of my special friends from Satchel's and I have warmed up to strangers she has introduced me to almost immediately. I like to be walked on a harness and don't pull at all. However, I do pull when just on a collar and tend to choke myself. I love car rides sitting perfectly in the passenger seat once you make me realize I can't sit in your lap! I have not had one accident during my sleepovers - I think that means I'm potty trained. I crave affection, love cuddling and enjoy sleeping in the bed with my friend. Oh, and I give hugs! I like playing with toys, especially tennis balls and am quite gentle with them. I just finished going through 6 weeks of agility training and I loved it! I do need some training as no one has spent any time yet working with me in that area, but I'd love to learn so I can please you. Tank is guessed to be 4-5 years old and weighs about 55 lbs. For an appointment to meet him, please email adoptions@satchelslastresort.org or call 941-924-5070.

Toby has grown up here at Satchel’s. He came to us as a young dog, emaciated and with horrible Demodex mange. His skin was inflamed and he had several bald patches. He now has the most beautiful coat. He is fantastic dog with lots of love to give but can be a little leery of some strangers initially. He loves going on car rides and to show you how happy he is, he will try to give you kisses the entire trip. He has been kenneled with his canine buddy for several years but can be a little selective about his canine friends. He still has lots of energy and enjoys playing with toys in the play yards. He went through basic obedience training in his earlier days at Satchel's but would need a refresher in a home. Toby is 6 years old and weighs approximately 55 lbs. Please email adoptions@satchelslastresort.org or call 941-924-5070 if you would like more information about Toby or for an appointment to meet him.

Tonka is an incredibly energetic girl who is very eager to please. While she can be excitable, she wants nothing more than attention from those she loves. She can be a little leery of strangers but once she trusts you she will win your heart with her giant ears and exuberant personality. Tonka knows basic commands and walks well on the leash once her initial excitement over the prospect of going for a walk diminishes. Her absolute favorite toy is a Jolly Ball Romp-and-roll which she can swing around for hours. Once playtime is over, she easily settles down for a cuddle. Tonka would do well in an active home with structured training. She will require an adult only home where she can be the only four-legged member.  For an appointment to meet Tonka, please email info@satchelslastresort.org or call 941-924-5070.

Handsome Tucker! Tucker is extremely smart and knows all his obedience commands. He loves to learn and be rewarded so continued training in a home can be made a fun and happy time. He's rides well in a car and is always excited when it's his turn for a car ride. Once the initial excitement of a walk is over, Tucker walks well on leash and enjoys a nice long walk. He is young boy with a lot of energy and would do best if he had a yard in which to run and play or some type of doggie sports such as agility or fly ball to keep him mentally and physically challenged. He enjoys the kiddie pools at the shelter and would likely enjoy swimming. Once play time is over, he's happy to snuggle with you. Tucker is estimated to be approximately 2 years old. For an appointment to meet him, please email adoptions@satchelslastresort.org or call 941-925-5070.

Venus here! I'm a chilled, low key senior looking for someone to love me. I was in a home for many years but as I got older I didn't care to be around the other dogs in the home, got myself into a little trouble and found myself here at Satchel's. I'm not much of an outside girl, just want to be inside in the air conditioning. I love people and here at Satchel's they call me "a very affectionate girl". I know all the basic commands and I listen well to them and try to please my people. So if you're looking for an older girl, who needs little exercise but lots of loving, I just might be the girl for you. Venus is 10 years old and weighs 70-75 lbs. For an appointment to meet her, please email adoptions@satchelslastresort.org or call 941-924-5070.

* SPECIAL NEEDS - SOME STRANGER DANGER * Look at this handsome boy! Watson is a big boy who just wants to be a dog. He's an interesting dog in that he loves some people at first site and others not so much so introducing him to strangers can be a little difficult. He would do best in a home with low traffic where he can get to know and trust the people coming through his territory. He likes to sit on your lap and is very affectionate but he doesn't care to be smothered in any way or have people in his face. He likes to play with ropes and chewy toys and sits like a perfect gentleman in the car. This boy is looking for someone to bond with who understands him. He'll be your loyal companion for life if you're the one for him. Watson is guessed to be 4-5 years old and weighs approximately 70 lbs. For an appointment to meet him, please email info@satchelslastresort.org or call 941-924-5070.
