* SPECIAL NEEDS - ANXIETY * Bernie is an interesting little fellow with enough quirks to keep you guessing for a life time. He comes off as very shy but he loves to meet people. When he knows his favorite volunteers are at Satchel's, you can guarantee Bernie will let them know with an excited bark and stretches saying "it's time to go!" He is a big explorer and the longer the walk the better, though sometimes he doesn't want to come back, and will stop and sit in protest. He adores running and traveling so if you take morning jogs, train for marathons, or travel across country, Bernie would be your perfect partner. He is gentle with his toys, and has no problem sharing his things with you. Bernie loves all life and has only shown adoration or curiosity with whatever comes his way. He is also a BIG time water dog, playing in the pool, splashing in a puddle, or even attempting to cool off in his water bowl, H2O is the way to go! Bernie could likely live with another dog and/or cat quite comfortably. Although not a big boy, Bernie is a fence jumper/climber and can scale a 6 foot fence without hesitation making leaving him alone in a yard for even a few minutes not an option. Bernie suffers with a severe anxiety disorder. He takes medication for his anxiety but still has panic attacks from time to time. He is looking for a home with a patient, loving family who will be there to help him through the "bad" times. Just 4 years old, with so much love to give, this amazing pup is just waiting for that special person who will keep him feeling safe and loved. If you think you have the time and patience to give Bernie his forever home, please submit the adoption application (no commitment) found on our website, www.satchelslastresort.org, and an adoption counselor will set up an appointment for you to meet this special boy.

** SPECIAL NEEDS - STRANGER DANGER ** Hi, I'm Brittany and I don't much care for strangers. I see all strangers as a potential threat and it takes me quite some time to accept new people into my world. However, once I do I love to spend time with you and have my belly rubbed. I love car rides and will just sleep in the back seat or sit nicely looking out of the window. I don't want to share my food and would prefer you leave me alone while eating. I'm looking for an adopter who understands the need to gain my trust and is willing to visit and wait until the time is right to take me home. Brittany is estimated to be approximately 8 years old and weighs around 50 lbs. For an appointment to meet her, please email info@satchelslastresort.org or call 941-924-5070.

Brooke is a very sweet, healthy, loving mixed breed and is looking for a loving, forever, family with whom to spend all the holidays to come. This loving girl has been at the shelter for many years and wants nothing more than to chill with her very own person. She's estimated to be 10 years young but is full of energy and is looking for someone to spend time playing with her and taking her for long walks. She has recently discovered how much fun car rides are. She loves to play with toys and run around in the yard. She is a people lover and kisses are abundant. Brooke does not care for other dogs and is looking to be your only 4 legged lover. If you're looking for a loving, active, senior to be your best friend and have no other dogs, Brooke would love to meet you. For more information or to sent up an appointment to meet Brooke, please email adoptions@satchelslastresort.org or call 941-924-5070.

Young
Meet Chewie! Chewie is a sweet, sensitive 1 1/2 year-old boy who joined our Satchel’s family recently when his family could no longer care for him. As a puppy growing up during the Covid-19 lockdown, Chewie had a lot to learn about the world around him and our staff and volunteers eagerly began socializing him with walks and car rides. As a strong puller and energetic dog, Chewie really enjoys long walks and is working on exploring as many county parks as possible with his Woof Pack Leader. He loves to sit in the front passenger seat in the car watching the world go by or to stretch out in the back seat with a favorite squeaky toy. Chewie can be a little shy meeting people at first but once he knows you, he is very affectionate and loves to cuddle. Chewie previously lived in a household with another dog, a cat and two children ages 10 and 14. Although we have not tested him with other dogs or cats yet, it is possible he may be able to go home with a canine or feline companion. If you would like to meet Chewie, please fill out an adoption application (no obligation) at www.satchelslastresort.org, and an adoption counselor will be in touch.

A volunteer senior favorite at Satchel's is 10 year old Cookie (although she's full of energy and you'd never guess her to be 10). Cookie has grown up at Satchel's, coming here pregnant 9 years ago. Although she adores people, loves her playtime and then is a snuggle bunny when the day is done, we weren't sure how she would respond in a home. Had she ever lived in a home? Is she housebroken? How will she transition from a shelter life to a home? A few weeks ago Cookie went into foster with Tom and Terry so we would know what kind of home would be best for her. Well according to her foster parents, Cookie is "the best dog ever". She has had no accidents, doesn't chew on anything other than her toys, loves everyone she meets and has even said hello to the neighborhood dogs without any issues. Tom and Terry simply can't believe this girl hasn't been scooped up long before now. Just as we believed all along, they have confirmed this girl is beautiful inside and out. She may be dog selective and would perhaps do best in a home as the only dog but we'd be happy to try an introduction with a submissive, older dog. What do you say, will you be Cookie's hero and make her a part of your family? If so, please complete the adoption application (no commitment) and we'll set up an appointment for you to meet her and fall in love.

Coop

Male
Gorgeous, six year-old Coop is a gentle, loving boy who is looking for a new Mom and/or Dad to reciprocate his love and also help him overcome his slight lack of confidence. Coop recently joined our Satchel’s family when his previous owners could no longer care for him. He adores spending time with his person, taking walks and going for car rides. He’s sensitive to street noise like loud cars or trucks but with encouragement from his person, he continues on his walk and tries to be very brave. Coop is a large dog, over 60 lbs, but he definitely thinks he’s a small lapdog wanting to always have you close as he offers many happy cuddles and kisses. He previously lived with another dog and seems to enjoy their company. His gentle temperament suggests he may also do well with children. To meet Coop, please fill out an adoption application (no obligation) online at www.satchelslastresort.org, and an adoption counselor will be in touch.

* SPECIAL NEEDS - "Stranger Danger" * Cooper has grown up here at Satchel’s but continues to search for a person to call his own. He's a little uncertain of new people and does take a little time to warm up but once he knows you're a friend, he's an absolute lover. He is good with some dogs and loves to run and play in the yard with his kennel mate. Cooper has a Woof Pack leader here at Satchel's and is going on site visits to help him get more comfortable with the outside world and prepare him for his forever home. Cooper has spent very little, if any, time in a home and needs a patient, loving, adopter to teach him house manners and show him what a loving home is all about. Cowboy is a real little gentleman when you're in with him, wanting to say good morning as soon as he catches sight of you at the shelter. He would be so happy to say "good morning" to his own person every day in his very own home. What a wonderful Christmas present for Cowboy! It takes Cowboy a little time to warm up to new people but once he knows you, he gives the sweetest little kisses and cuddles. He loves getting out and running in the yard and then waiting for some belly rubs when yard time is over. He loves his toys and is neat and tidy in his kennel. Crash is a sweet old man who has the cutest little proud walk. It is almost as if he is prancing. He is a bit shy of strangers but with a brief intro, he will be your new best friend. He loves to go on walks though he would also be happy to cuddle up on the couch with you too. He is not overly affectionate but does give you the random kiss to let you know he cares. Crash was surrendered to Satchel's because the landlord in the prior home said he could not stay. Crash has lived with two other small dogs in his prior home. We also believe that Crash could live with cats. It was reported that Crash will guard the human he is bonded to, though we have not seen this in the shelter environment. For this reason, we recommend that Crash goes to an adult-only home. Crash is 8 years old and weighs around 60 lbs. For an appointment to meet him, please submit the adoption application (no commitment) found on our website, www.satchelslastresort.org and an adoption counselor will be in touch.

* Medical Special Needs * Meet Crystal. What do you see when you look at Crystal? An overbred momma dog? A dog that had a horrible person chop off her ears? A dog that was left inside a crate at an abandoned property? You know what we see? Unconditional love, this girl wants affection and love so badly. She craves to be told she is a good girl, a warm leg to lean on. She is beautiful to us both inside and out. You will see that too when you come meet her and give her a chance. She enjoys a bath and belly rub, hugs and a romp in the yard but her favorite thing to do is hang out with people who love her.  Sometimes it will take her a little while to warm up to new people, but the wait is so worth it. She is just a big love bug. She is not fond of other dogs. She can go for walks with them but not exist together in a house or come face to face. She is obsessed with cats so if you are interested in her, you can't have any of those either. She does have cancer (cutaneous hemangiosarcoma). It manifests itself with sores and blood blisters on her stomach and these will pop occasionally and bleed. Eventually the disease will go to her spleen. Her survival can be a few years with this type of cancer by the time it has spread to the spleen. Are you the person to love and provide care for Crystal for her remaining years? If so, please email adoptions@satchelslastresort.org or call 941-924-5070 for an appointment to meet her.

These bonded friendly seniors are looking for a home together to spend the remainder of their retirement years.  Ginger is a 13 year old who weighs approximately 65 pound. She is a mellow girl most of the time but still enjoys walks and exploring our yards. She is very bonded to her best friend Taylor. Taylor is a 10 year old and weighs approximately 80 pounds. She is young at heart and very eager to please. Taylor still has a great deal of energy for her age. She is happy to take long walks and loves to explore our yards. Ginger and Taylor recently spent a few weeks in a foster home and their foster mom said they were excellent in the home. No accidents, no chewing, loved everyone who stopped for a visit. Harley is so ready to find his forever family! At six years old, Harley has grown up at Satchel’s and has become a volunteer favorite. Harley is incredibly smart and loves having a job and learning new skills. He completed 6 weeks of agility training and loved the high energy exercise. He looks forward to attending his weekly doggie playgroup sessions at a local dog training studio, having so much fun that he pretty much passes out for the night when he returns to the shelter. Harley is sweet and affectionate, adores car rides and meeting new people. Harley is working with his Woof Pack leader to learn some basic social skills and be introduced to the outside world. He enjoys exploring the outdoors, especially fenced-in back yards so he can chase lizards and bugs. He would do best in an adult, dog savvy household with no other pets or perhaps a large submissive female dog! In order for Harley to continue enjoying his doggie playgroup sessions after adoption, LEADSRQ, is sponsoring Harley with a $300 training package at K9 Korral. Thank you LEADSRQ! *SPECIAL NEEDS - TRIPOD* Hi, I'm Ilean. It's been a couple of years since I lost my canine "big brother" and I really wish I could find a family of my own now please. Wilbur and I were in a home together and then came to Satchel's together many, many, years ago. Wilbur took care of me since I was a little puppy. I'm now looking for human companionship with a new family.   I may only have 3 legs but that doesn't slow me down much. I have a ton of energy and happily bounce around on my 3 legs. I love my walks, although I am slowing down in my old age and can no longer walk very far. I enjoy playing fetch with the ball (although I don't necessarily bring it back to you every time, I just want you to come and get it from me), and absolutely love love love jumping in the water in the tubs we have here at Satchel's. And, of course, car rides are high on my list. Belly rubs are great and I'm sure I would enjoy lounging around with you given the opportunity.   Wilbur was the only dog I ever wanted in my life so I'm looking for a home with no other dogs (or for that matter, no other 4 legged species). Do you have the perfect home for me where I will be showered with love and kisses throughout my senior years, please, please?? I'm waiting...   Ilean is 12 years old and weighs approximately 50 lbs. Jimbo adores long walks but he is a strong puller and will require a handler who can manage his strength.  Whether he joins you in the car to run errands or snuggles next to you on the sofa, Jimbo is a complete love bug and fun companion. He is quite social and loves to meet people.  Jimbo is good around children but because of his energy level, he may do best in a household with children ages 10+.  If you would like to meet Jimbo, please fill out an adoption application (no obligation) at www.satchelslastresort.org, and an adoption counselor will be in touch.

** MEDICAL SPECIAL NEEDS ** Kelly has so many volunteer fans who don't understand why she is still at the shelter because she is so loving. It could be that her body is unable to keep her kidney values stable without some help from subcutaneous fluids. We don't really know why but with her twice a week flulid supplements, her values remain stable. Our vet doesn't believe this will, in any way, shorten her life or cause her any pain as long as she continues to get her fluids. She patiently stands for the 15 minutes it takes to give them to her. So should this really be why she has to live out her life at a shelter? Kelly has found herself a Woof Pack leader here at Satchel's so she is able to get out of the shelter, see the outside world, and meet new people. Please consider opening up your heart and home to Kelly and give yourself an amazing gift this year.  Kelly weighs approximately 55 lbs and is guessed to be 6 years old. * SPECIAL NEEDS - PROTECTIVE, STRANGER DANGER * Hey there I'm Mickey! I'm an 9 year old boy. Some of my best friends could tell you just how loyal and loveable I truly am. I'm so loyal that when around my favorite people, I want to protect them. I would love someone who will keep me as active as my age would allow, as I do love to go for walks and even love to swim! Stranger danger is a term that my friends might use to describe me but it's really because when I love you, I want to protect you and my space from other people! I would want to protect you even from your friends, so keep in mind I would likely need my own room of a big comfy crate to hang out in if you have company over. I could potentially live with another submissive dog, but we would have to meet and form a friendship first. I would be best in a home with no kids. My favorite activities include exploring new places (where they're aren't many people), swimming in safe places (even a kiddie pool) and going on car rides! I also love to get pet and receive love from my best friends. I am working with my Woof Pack leader and am able to get out of the shelter and explore from time to time. I would want to meet you a few times before I would be comfortable with you, but if you give me treats, throw my toys for me, and come on a few walks, I'm sure we would become great friends. I really hope you'll come meet me, and don't mind that I require a little patience. Hope to meet you soon! Love, Mickey *Mickey has extreme protective tendencies and would need to be in a home where no one comes in and out of the home without a careful introduction. It will take several visits to the shelter for Mickey to feel comfortable with you.

Papi is our smallest resident here at Satchel’s but is never overlooked, despite his size he’s always the life of the party. Papi has that playful puppy charm you want in a dog that just keeps you “awe”-ing when you’re with him. Though his sweetest shines, he does have a sour patch side. Fear not! Our sweet senior boy has no teeth and only tries to use his gums as protection when he feels threatened or too crowded. Absolutely understandable for a boy of his stature. Generally, Papi loves to play with squeaky toys and rub his head in your chest. Although Papi doesn't have playmates at Satchel's, we believe he would get along with another dog in the home just fine. Single, lonely and searching for the perfect match. Rocket is 3 years young and is recovering from a traumatic past. Sadly, he lost his trust of people but not his love for people. Rocket loves everyone and gets so excited to meet people! He has a fear of “harsh corrections”. Sometimes just the word “no” makes him nervous (he is getting better). He is scared to be “dragged” by his collar but is fine having a leash attached. Rocket is housebroken, crate trained, and very obedient (he seeks to learn more). He loves to run in a back yard and play all along with enjoying neck and belly rubs. Rocket is seeking an adult only understanding home where he will no longer worry and can continue to recover from his past abuse. He longs for the day when he feels safe with someone who loves him while watching TV, chewing his favorite nylabone. He would do best as the only pet in the home. Adult
Ronnie the Rottie is a happy guy that has the cutest wiggly butt. His whole body moves when he wags his nub, greeting everyone with an equal amount of enthusiasm. He was found stray by animal services. Ronnie had some eye issues when he arrived at Satchel's but that is clearing up nicely. He loves walks and butt scratches. Ronnie has a Woof Pack leader here at Satchel's helping him learn some basic social skills and introducing him to the outside world. We are, at this time, unsure if Ronnie could live in a home with another dog. He seems interested in other dogs, but we have not successfully paired him up with another canine companion. He is not a fan of cats. Ronnie is best suited for an adult-only home. Ronnie is guessed to be 5 years old and weighs approximately 80 lbs. For an appointment to meet him, please submit the adoption application (no commitment) found on our website, www.satchelslastresort.org, and an adoption counselor will be in touch.

* MEDICAL SPECIAL NEEDS - DISTEMPTER SURVIVOR * Scarlett is a most precious resident at Satchels, she is adored by all who see her smile. Scarlett had distemper as a puppy which has resulted in life long neurological issues. That means nothing to her, Scarlett is a spunky heartthrob. She’s quirky, loves other animals and people. With her condition she has a special way of communicating and is always up for a chatter. In her previous home we were told she was picked on by the other pups but her she has come out of her shell and she is running with the best of them! A bigger, older puppy would be the perfect playmate for her as she sometimes plays with her mouth. An adult only home would be best for Scarlett since her talking can sometimes be a little rambunctious. She does require help with potty training and needs a home where someone is home most of the time. She hasn’t caught the hang of how to sit or those basics yet, but she will come to you quicker than anyone you know and listens very well to no! Once you see her spinning with joy for you, you won’t want to spend another day without her! Scarlett is 3 years old and weighs approximately 45 lbs. For an appointment to meet her, please submit the adoption application (no commitment) found on our website, www.satchelslastresort.org, and an adoption counselor will be in touch.

* SPECIAL NEEDS: STRANGER DANGER. Tonka is an incredibly energetic girl who is very eager to please. While she can be excitable, she wants nothing more than attention from those she loves. She can be a little leery of strangers but once she trusts you she will win your heart with her giant ears and exuberant personality. Tonka knows basic commands and walks well on the leash once her initial excitement over the prospect of going for a walk diminishes. Her absolute favorite toy is a Jolly Ball Romp-and-roll which she can swing around for hours. Once playtime is over, she easily settles down for a cuddle. Tonka would do well in an active home with structured training. She will require an adult only home where she can be the only four-legged member.  Tonka is 9 years old. For an appointment to meet her, please email adoptions@satchelslastresort.org or call 941-924-5070.

Handsome Tucker! Tucker is extremely smart and knows all his obedience commands. He loves to learn and be rewarded so continued training in a home can be made a fun and happy time. He's rides well in a car and is always excited when it's his turn for a car ride. Once the initial excitement of a walk is over, Tucker walks well on leash and enjoys a nice long walk. He is young boy with a lot of energy and would do best if he had a yard in which to run and play or some type of doggie sports such as agility or fly ball to keep him mentally and physically challenged. He enjoys the kiddie pools at the shelter and would likely enjoy swimming. He has a canine girlfriend at the shelter and would enjoy a canine sibling. Once play time is over, he's happy to snuggle with you. Tucker is estimated to be approximately 3 years old. For an appointment to meet him, please email adoptions@satchelslastresort.org or call 941-924-5070.

* SPECIAL NEEDS - SOME STRANGER DANGER * Look at this handsome boy! Watson is a big boy who just wants to be a dog. He's an interesting dog in that he loves some people at first site and others not so much so introducing him to strangers can be a little difficult. He would do best in a home with low traffic where he can get to know and trust the people coming through his territory. Watson is strong minded and needs a dog savy person. He likes to sit on your lap and is very affectionate but he doesn't care to be smothered in any way or have people in his face. He likes to play with ropes and chewy toys and sits like a perfect gentleman in the car. This boy is looking for someone to bond with who understands him. He'll be your loyal companion for life if you're the one for him. Watson is guessed to be 6 years old and weighs approximately 70 lbs. Winston is a young Spaniel mix ready to bust out! His hobbies include long walks with volunteers, car rides ending in food and of course, playing with his awesome toys. Winston is always up for an adventure and chance to explore, wherever you’d like to go, as long as he can come too. He could also possibly live with a K9 companion. Winston is not much for people in his face and prefers those close encounter interactions come at his pace. For this, he would do better in an adult only household that respects boundaries of all family members. Winston is 4 years old and weighs 35-40 lbs. For an appointment to meet him, please submit the adoption application (no commitment) found on our website, www.satchelslastresort.org, and an adoption counselor will be in touch.
