Meet Azalea! This girl is looking for a quiet home where she can spend her retirement years. Azalea enjoys nice long walks to give her the exercise she needs. She loves to swim in the pool and then sunbathe on the deck. She is dog selective but could live in a home with a submissive dog. Azalea can sometimes be a little aloof when she first meets you but warms up quickly and will be your friend for life if you give her belly rubs and back scratches. Looking for a TV watching companion? Azalea will be happy to share your couch. Azalea is estimated to be approximately 10 years old and weighs about 50 pounds. For an appointment to meet her, please email adoptions@satchelslastresort.org or call 941-924-5070

Bandit
Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat)

Bandit is an athletic boy who LOVES balls of any kind. He particularly loves rolling the large red plastic ball around in our play yard and enjoys chasing tennis balls to play fetch but doesn't quite understand that you have to give it back to the "thrower". He would love a yard of his own where his family would spend time playing with him to help burn off some of his energy. He is quite the jumper, so we would recommend a high fence around the yard and, as with any dog, we wouldn't recommend he be left outside alone for any amount of time. This strong, affectionate boy is only 2 years old and still has a lot of puppy in him. He needs some training and would do best in a home with an experienced dog handler. After some training, he would likely make a good jogging companion or perhaps would like to try Agility or Fly Ball. Bandit is currently on medication for a skin issue and that may be something that will need to be an on-going medication. For more information on Bandit or to make an appointment to meet him, please email adoptions@satchelslastresort.org or call 941-924-5070.

** SPECIAL NEEDS - STRANGER DANGER ** Hi, I'm Brittany and I don't much care for strangers. I see all strangers as a potential threat and it takes me quite some time to accept new people into my world. However, once I do I love to spend time with you and have my belly rubbed. I love car rides and will just sleep in the back seat or sit nicely looking out of the window. I don't want to share my food and would prefer you leave me alone while eating. I'm looking for an adopter who understands the need to gain my trust and is willing to visit and wait until the time is right to take me home. Brittany is estimated to be approximately 6 years old and weighs around 50 lbs. For an appointment to meet her, please email info@satchelslastresort.org or call 941-924-5070.

Bronson was rescued from a county shelter last November in need of medical attention. He had been shot. The bullet had ricocheted off the shoulder blade and lodged near the spine, barely missing the heart - a kill shot it seemed. Bronson also had heartworm disease as well as needing to be neutered when his treatment was complete so it's been a few long months for Bronson in a small kennel. He's now a healthy boy, enjoying life in a large kennel and running free in our play yards while he waits for his forever home. He craves human attention and just wants someone to snuggle with. He may be a large dog, but he firmly believes he's a lap dog. He seems to like other dogs and could possibly have a canine sibling. He is a little leery around children and an adult-only (or children over 16) home would be best for Bronson. Bronson is estimated to be 2-3 years old. For an appointment to meet him, please email adoptions@satchelslastresort.org or call 941-924-5070.

Brooke is a very sweet, healthy, loving mixed breed and is looking for a loving, forever, family with whom to spend all the holidays to come. This loving girl has been at the shelter for many years and wants nothing more than to chill with her very own person. She's estimated to be 10 years young but is full of energy and is looking for someone to spend time playing with her and taking her for long walks. She loves to play with toys and run around in the yard. She is a people lover and kisses are abundant. Brooke does not care for other dogs and is looking to be your only 4 legged lover. If you're looking for a loving, active, senior to be your best friend and have no other dogs, Brooke would love to meet you. Meet Carmen. Carmen is a big, strong girl who needs to have a competent handler. She is a stubborn girl who does not like any other animals so the abilitly to be able to control her if she sees another animal is key to keeping everyone safe. Some basic training in "wait" and "stay" would likely help with that situation. She would do best in a home with a yard where she is able to run around and play. Rolling in the grass is one of her most favorite things to do. Although animals may not be her thing, she adores people and loves one-on-one attention - you can't beat belly rubs and back scratches! Carmen likes squeaky toys and all kinds of chews. She's not overly active but plays hard for a short time - then sleeps even harder. She likes to have her nap times and would love to have your company while she drifts off to sleep. If you are interested in meeting Carmen, please complete the adoption application (no commitment) found on our website, www.satchelslastresort.org, and an adoption counselor will be in touch with you.

I'm Carson and I'm a fun loving boy! I love playing with toys and playing ball is my absolute favorite. I'm used to be very agile and would leap through the air to catch the ball. The people here say I'm "a rambunctious boy". I think that just means I'm full of energy and need lots of exercise. Unfortunately, I guess I did a little too much of that, and recently had an ACL surgery performed. I'm still recovering from my surgery and, as I enter my senior years, chances are I'll have to settle down a little.  Carson is guessed to be about 7 yeas old and weighs approximately 60 lbs. * SPECIAL NEEDS - NERVOUS AROUND NEW PEOPLE * This girl was rescued by a wonderful couple off the streets of Yangon, Burma as a puppy. Charlee tolerates most dogs but would prefer to be the only dog in the household. She can be a bit nervous of new people, studying you until she decides you are okay, and is hand shy. She warms up quickly especially if you have a cookie that she really likes but she can be particular on the type. She may have gotten a bit spoiled here at Satchels with our wide variety of donated goodies. It may take someone a couple of visits to see Charlee's true personality. She loves to sun herself and roll around in the yard. She is a low key girl but does have her moments of excitement. She loves stuffed toys especially if they make sounds. She also enjoys walks but is a bit nervous of new situations and does not like getting in the car. Charlee is approximately 9 years old and weighs around 50 lbs. Chipper Lou recently came to Satchel’s when her family could no longer care for her, and we have completely fallen in love with her sweet and gentle disposition.  At only five years-old, Chipper Lou is a mellow and spunky girl who would love to be by your side for daily adventures to Home Depot or joining you and your friends for lunch at an outdoor cafe. One of our volunteers recently took Chipper home for the afternoon and noted that she was the first dog she had brought home who didn’t want to jump up on the furniture. She seems to like other dogs and cats, and is happy to meet all people she encounters. Chipper Lou does have a fear of thunderstorms which causes her much anxiety. She will need an understanding family who will ensure her comfort and provide her a safe, secure location in the home until the storms pass. Chipper Lou weighs approximately 50 lbs. If you would like more information on Chipper Lou, please fill out an adoption application (no obligation) online at www.satchelslastresort.org, and an adoptions counselor will be in touch.

At 9 years old Cookie may be a senior but she didn't get the memo. This girl has a ton of energy and loves spending time in the play yards with her person, chasing large jolly balls or tossing her toys around. Cookie has grown up at Satchel's, being rescued from a county shelter over 8 years ago as a very young mom with her puppies. She enjoys her walks with our volunteers although she gets a little nervous outside her comfort zone of the shelter. Car rides are the best and Cookie makes an excellent passenger. Cookie adores human attention and is looking for a home where she is not left alone too often. She is not very tolerant of other animals and needs to be the only four-legged member of your family. If you're a one pet family, spend a lot of time at home, and are looking for an active senior who thinks she's a lap dog, please consider opening up your heart and home to this girl who is beautiful inside and out. * Medical Special Needs * Meet Crystal. What do you see when you look at Crystal? An overbred momma dog? A dog that had a horrible person chop off her ears? A dog that was left inside a crate at an abandoned property? You know what we see? Unconditional love, this girl wants affection and love so badly. She craves to be told she is a good girl, a warm leg to lean on. She is beautiful to us both inside and out. You will see that too when you come meet her and give her a chance. She enjoys a bath and belly rub, hugs and a romp in the yard but her favorite thing to do is hang out with people who love her.  Sometimes it will take her a little while to warm up to new people, but the wait is so worth it. She is just a big love bug. She is not fond of other dogs. She can go for walks with them but not exist together in a house or come face to face. She is obsessed with cats so if you are interested in her, you can't have any of those either. She does have cancer (cutaneous hemangiosarcoma). It manifests itself with sores and blood blisters on her stomach and these will pop occasionally and bleed. Eventually the disease will go to her spleen. Her survival can be a few years with this type of cancer by the time it has spread to the spleen. Are you the person to love and provide care for Crystal for her remaining years? If so, please email adoptions@satchelslastresort.org or call 941-924-5070 for an appointment to meet her.

He recently completed 6 weeks of agility training and just began attending weekly doggie playgroup sessions at a local dog training studio. Harley is sweet and affectionate, adores car rides and meeting new people. He enjoys exploring the outdoors, especially fenced-in back yards so he can chase lizards and bugs. He would do best in an adult, dog savvy household, and he would love a large female canine companion! No cats or small dogs though, please. In order for Harley to continue enjoying his doggie playgroup sessions after adoption, LEADSRQ, is sponsoring Harley with a $300 training package at K9 Korral. Thank you LEADSRQ! Howard here. Everyone tells me what a handsome boy I am and I'm really hoping you have room in your home for a handsome guy. I like to play, give kisses and cuddle. I don't do too well walking on a leash - I like to pull - as I haven't had much experience in that area. Perhaps you can help me out with that? I am, however, a great car rider. Children tend to scare me so I do need a home with no little ones please. Howard weighs approximately 50 lbs and is guessed to be about 6 years old. *SPECIAL NEEDS - TRIPOD* Hi, I'm Ilean. It's been a couple of years since I lost my canine "big brother" and I really wish I could find a family of my own now please. Wilbur and I were in a home together and then came to Satchel's together many, many, years ago. Wilbur took care of me since I was a little puppy. I'm now looking for human companionship with a new family.   I may only have 3 legs but that doesn't slow me down much. I have a ton of energy and happily bounce around on my 3 legs. I love my walks, although I am slowing down in my old age and can no longer walk very far. I enjoy playing fetch with the ball (although I don't necessarily bring it back to you every time, I just want you to come and get it from me), and absolutely love love love jumping in the water in the tubs we have here at Satchel's. And, of course, car rides are high on my list. Belly rubs are great and I'm sure I would enjoy lounging around with you given the opportunity.   Wilbur was the only dog I ever wanted in my life so I'm looking for a home with no other dogs (or for that matter, no other 4 legged species). Do you have the perfect home for me where I will be showered with love and kisses throughout my senior years, please, please?? I'm waiting...   Ilean is 10 years old and weighs approximately 50 lbs.  Meet Jade! This little girl has tons of energy and loves to have fun! "Zoomies" in the yard is one of her favorite pasttimes. She also enjoys chasing her favorite squeaky toy ball in the backyard. She loves going on walks and would be great on hikes. She likes her whole family, but really bonds with “her” person. Jade has a such a very gentle spirit, is so very sweet, and is well behaved in the house. She is potty trained and is currently receiving basic obedience training in her foster home. She absolutely loves getting pets…she will sit next to you for hours if you keep petting her. Jade is a little shy with new people, but warms up very quickly. Just give her a treat and she will be your new best friend. Jade is extremely curious about the world outside her doors and tries to escape out of an open door. Jade was abandoned at this young age and so does have a little separation anxiety, which will likely pass once she realizes she is not going to be abandoned again. It would seem Jade has never been socialized with other dogs although she seems curious and may possibly be able to live with a canine sibling. If your family has an active lifestyle, Jade will make an excellent companion. Jade is guessed to be 1-2 years old. For an appointment to meet her, please email adoptions@satchelslastresorg.org or call 941-924-5070.

** MEDICAL SPECIAL NEEDS ** Hello friends, my name is Kelly. I am a very sweet girl who loves going for long strolls around the neighborhood and I don't mean to brag, but I am the best leash walker ever! I am quite the socialite and love being around people. If you were to take me home, you would be my world and I would want nothing more than to cozy up and cuddle next to you. Oh, and I don't really want to share you with any other four-legged being, so I do need to be your only baby please. I love going for car rides and am the perfect passenger. I can be a bit of a diva when it comes to my bed, but with my health, I can't help but feel entitled. Several months ago, I was diagnosed with kidney failure and am now getting fluids twice a week. My latest tests show that the fluids are doing their job and keeping me healthy. Now it's time for me to find my forever home with that special person who will continue to give me the fluids I need. It's not a problem to give them to me - I'm so used to it and am no trouble. P. S. You might have seen me around town with my friends from Satchel's Last Resort at our local events. I'm the one who wants all the attention. Kelly weighs approximately 55 lbs and is guessed to be 4 years old. Meet Macho! Macho spent several years at Satchel's waiting for his forever home until he recently went home with a volunteer as a short term foster to see how Macho adapted to being in a home. Seems he loves being in a home and is absolutely no trouble. Don't let the skin condition around his eyes deter you from meeting this sweet boy. The eye meds we use every day and the special food for allergies keeps the condition under control. He loves playing with his people - staff call him "a silly boy" as he tries so hard to get you to rough house and play with him. He doesn't want to share your attention and so would prefer to be the only pet in the home. Macho loves going on car rides and walks well on a leash. Macho is estimated to be 10 years old and weighs approximately 55 lbs. This boy would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE a family to call his own. * SPECIAL NEEDS - PROTECTIVE, STRANGER DANGER * Hey there I'm Mickey! I'm an 8 year old boy. Some of my best friends could tell you just how loyal and loveable I truly am. I'm so loyal that when around my favorite people, I want to protect them. I would love someone who will keep me as active as my age would allow, as I do love to go for walks and even love to swim! Stranger danger is a term that my friends might use to describe me but it's really because when I love you, I want to protect you and my space from other people! I would want to protect you even from your friends, so keep in mind I would likely need my own room of a big comfy crate to hang out in if you have company over. I could potentially live with another submissive dog, but we would have to meet and form a friendship first. I would be best in a home with no kids. My favorite activities include exploring new places (where they're aren't many people), swimming in safe places (even a kiddie pool) and going on car rides! I also love to get pet and receive love from my best friends. I would want to meet you a few times before I would be comfortable with you, but if you give me treats, throw my toys for me, and come on a few walks, I'm sure we would become great friends. I really hope you'll come meet me, and don't mind that I require a little patience. Hope to meet you soon! Love, Mickey *Mickey has extreme protective tendencies and would need to be in a home where no one comes in and out of the home without a careful introduction. It will take several visits to the shelter for Mickey to feel comfortable with you.

*MEDICAL SPECIAL NEEDS* Just look at this handsome dude! Monte is sweet, loving boy but doesn't appear to have had much training in his younger life. His leash walking skills are a little lacking, indicating perhaps he doesn't have much experience in that area. He is currently in a foster home learning some essential obedience, seems eager to please and will listen, but he needs some consistent training to help him understand what is required of him. He enjoys wandering around his yard but likes "his person" to be out there with him. Human attention is important to him and he'd prefer a home with someone around much of the time. He would do well in a home as an only dog or with a medium-large size dog. He doesn't realize his size when it comes to small dogs and cats. Monte has recently been diagnosed with hip dysplasia which slows him down a little. We have started him on an injection which he will need once a month for life to help keep him free of pain. You can be shown how to give this injection with ease. This gorgeous boy doesn't have a mean bone in his body, just loves everyone and everything. If you're looking for a loving companion and have some time to train, why not meet Monte? Monte is 4 years old and weighs approximately 60 lbs. For an appointment to meet him, please submit the adoption application (no commitment) found on our website and an adoption counselor will be in touch.

Peppy is ready to move on to her forever home! Satchel's rescued Peppy from animal services in the fall of 2017. This poor girl was a starvation case and learning to trust people initially came a little hard for her. Thanks to our caring staff and volunteers, she is now able to live her life again, without constant fear of being abandoned or mistreated. She would do best in an adult only home and does appear to get along with other dogs. Peppy is estimated to be 5-6 years old and weighs approximately 50 lbs. For an appointment to meet her, please email adoptions@satchelslastresort.org or call 941-924-5070.

Riley is that special gem of a dog who bonds deeply with her person. She’s a very strong girl and she’ll want to be the only dog in the household, but once she connects with you; you’ll fall for her quirky, sweet personality. Her previous life was a difficult one, but her time at Satchel’s has helped her decompress and know what it feels like to be loved. Riley will thrive with a dog savvy family, and will lead the way on long hikes and be your co-pilot in the car. She adores squeaky toys, tater tots and milk bone biscuits, and she’ll show you her love by planting sloppy kisses on your cheek. Riley is approximately 3-4 years old and weighs about 75 pounds. If you’d like to meet her for yourself, please fill out an adoption application online (no obligation) at www.satchelslastresort.org, and an adoption counselor will contact you.

Let us introduce you to Rocket. This handsome 3 year-old Treeing Walker Hound mix is 51 pounds of puppy! He is a very energetic boy who craves attention and companionship. He may greet you with an enthusiastic fully body wiggle or he may show you his pearly whites with a goofy smile. After an initial excited greeting, Rocket settles quickly into wanting to sit as close to you as possible. He is a “leaner” and will lean into his person for pats and back scratches. Rocket may not have had a lot of training in his previous life, but we can tell that he is quickly learning important skills in the short time we have had him at Satchel’s. In fact, he is very smart and has already mastered basic commands such as “sit” and “down”. Puppy Obedience training will be a must for Rocket, and he may also really shine as an agility dog! If you would like to meet Rocket, please fill out an adoption application (no obligation) online at www.satchelslastresort.org andan adoption counselor will get in touch with you.

Hey I'm Rosey and I'm looking for someone to love me for the rest of my days. I'm a senior girl at 11 years old but I still have a lot of spunk and so much love to give. I absolutely love people and wiggle my crooked little tail whenever anyone pays attention to me. On a hot summer day, I love playing with the water as it comes out of the hose. I like short walks but my most favorite thing to do is going for car rides. Car ride, car ride, car ride - YES PLEASE! I'll ride around with you all day if you'll let me. A canine companion is okay as long as they are nice to me and don't take the front passenger seat of the car as I do like to ride shot gun. Are you looking for a co-pilot, I'm here! Rosey is a laid back, easy going girl patiently waiting for her own bed in a loving home. For more information or to schedule an appointment to meet Rosey, please email adoptions@satchelslastresort.org or call 941-924-5070.

We have our very own "Ol' Blue Eyes" right here at Satchel's. This happy go lucky boy has been with us for a little over a week and has adjusted well to his new surroundings after losing his home due to a change in his family circumstances. We are told from his previous owner that he may become protective of "his person" and so an experienced dog owner would be best for Sinatra. He is easy going on a leash and loves his walks with all our volunteers, He knows basic commands and is potty trained. This handsome boy is guessed to be 8 years old and weighs approximately 50 lbs. For an appointment to meet Sinatra, please submit the adoption application (no commitment) found on our website, www.satchelslastresort.org, and an adoption counselor will get back to you.

Meet Stone. Stone has been at Satchel's for a little over 6 months now. Surrendered to us through Beach Vet by his owners who felt he was just too much for them to handle. It takes a few visits with Stone for him to start to earn your trust but this boy is worth the effort. He's a handsome, strong, energetic, young boy with so much life to live. Stone loves to play fetch with tennis balls, but hasn't quite caught onto the entire game - dropping them for you doesn't currently happen so you need to have several. He loves playing "catch me if you can in the yard" with you, but he is just learning how to play with people and can get wound up quickly, so it is important to keep some level of calmness until he knows how to calm himself. He likes to go on walks with our volunteers, and walks well on a leash, but is very unsure of everything outside of his immediate environment so won't travel far from the shelter. Stone loves all toys, his favorite being the Kong. He will chew on one all day, even if it's empty. Throws it around his kennel, carries it outside with him and brings it back in. He is starting to show affection as he learns to trust. He will come and sit next to you and will lick your face to say "thank you for saving me". Stone is still very scared of most things. This young boy needs encouragement and socialization. If you have the time and patience to give Stone what he needs so he is able to become the best boy he can be and enjoy life to the fullest, please set up an appointment to meet him. Email adoptions@satchelslastresort.org or call 941-924-5070.

Meet Tobie. Tobie is a 13 year old American Pitbull Terrier, weighing around 80lbs, who found his way to Satchel's a short time ago. He is the most sensitive boy you’ve ever been around. He loves to cuddle, and tell you all about his day. He loves children and other big dogs- but kitties and small dogs scare him. Tobie knows his basic commands in sign language as well as spoken English (outside, sit, stay, etc). This big boy still has spurts of energy and loves to be silly with his toys or a nice bone. He really enjoys going for short walks or just being outside in the yard but he can also be a loving couch potato with you all day too. Tobie was very sad when he had to leave his family after being with them for so long, we’d love to get him in a home and settled as soon as possible so he doesn’t have to ever feel that way again. For an appointment to meet Tobie, please submit the adoption application found on our website, www.satchelslastresort.org, and an adoption counselor will be touch.

Toby has grown up here at Satchel’s. He came to us as a young dog, emaciated and with horrible Demodex mange. His skin was inflamed and he had several bald patches. He now has the most beautiful coat. He is fantastic dog with lots of love to give but can be a little leery of some strangers initially. He loves going on car rides and to show you how happy he is, he will try to give you kisses the entire trip. He has been kenneled with his canine buddy for several years but can be a little selective about his canine friends. He still has lots of energy and enjoys playing with toys in the play yards. He went through basic obedience training in his earlier days at Satchel's but would need a refresher in a home. Toby is 7 years old and weighs approximately 55 lbs. Please email adoptions@satchelslastresort.org or call 941-924-5070 if you would like more information about Toby or for an appointment to meet him.

* SPECIAL NEEDS: STRANGER DANGER. Tonka is an incredibly energetic girl who is very eager to please. While she can be excitable, she wants nothing more than attention from those she loves. She can be a little leery of strangers but once she trusts you she will win your heart with her giant ears and exuberant personality. Tonka knows basic commands and walks well on the leash once her initial excitement over the prospect of going for a walk diminishes. Her absolute favorite toy is a Jolly Ball Romp-and-roll which she can swing around for hours. Once playtime is over, she easily settles down for a cuddle. Tonka would do well in an active home with structured training. She will require an adult only home where she can be the only four-legged member.  Tonka is 8 years old. For an appointment to meet her, please email adoptions@satchelslastresort.org or call 941-924-5070.

Handsome Tucker! Tucker is extremely smart and knows all his obedience commands. He loves to learn and be rewarded so continued training in a home can be made a fun and happy time. He's rides well in a car and is always excited when it's his turn for a car ride. Once the initial excitement of a walk is over, Tucker walks well on leash and enjoys a nice long walk. He is young boy with a lot of energy and would do best if he had a yard in which to run and play or some type of doggie sports such as agility or fly ball to keep him mentally and physically challenged. He enjoys the kiddie pools at the shelter and would likely enjoy swimming. He has a canine girlfriend at the shelter and would enjoy a canine sibling. Once play time is over, he's happy to snuggle with you. Tucker is estimated to be approximately 2 years old. For an appointment to meet him, please email adoptions@satchelslastresort.org or call 941-924-5070.

Venus here! I'm a chilled, low key senior looking for someone to love me. I was in a home for many years but as I got older I didn't care to be around the other dogs in the home, got myself into a little trouble and found myself here at Satchel's. I'm not much of an outside girl, just want to be inside in the air conditioning. I love people and here at Satchel's they call me "a very affectionate girl". I know all the basic commands and I listen well to them and try to please my people. So if you're looking for an older girl, who needs little exercise but lots of loving, I just might be the girl for you. Venus is 10 years old and weighs 70-75 lbs. For an appointment to meet her, please email adoptions@satchelslastresort.org or call 941-924-5070.
