Bandit is an athletic boy who LOVES balls of any kind. He particularly loves rolling the large red plastic ball around in our play yard and enjoys chasing tennis balls to play fetch but doesn't quite understand that you have to give it back to the "thrower". He would love a yard of his own where his family would spend time playing with him to help burn off some of his energy. He is quite the jumper, so we would recommend a high fence around the yard and, as with any dog, we wouldn't recommend he be left outside alone for any amount of time. This strong, affectionate boy is only 2 years old and still has a lot of puppy in him. He needs some training and would do best in a home with an experienced dog handler. After some training, he would likely make a good jogging companion or perhaps would like to try Agility or Fly Ball. Bandit is currently on medication for a skin issue and that may be something that will need to be an on-going medication. For more information on Bandit or to make an appointment to meet him, please email adoptions@satchelslastresort.org or call 941-924-5070.

Introducing the lovely Bianca! Bianca is a 5 year-old Great Pyrenees who simply adores human interaction. She greets everyone with a happy smile and a tail wag, and immediately launches into her signature full body lean when a person is nearby. She loves to walk on leash and does so beautifully, however, she is a very large dog and can pull hard if she sees something she wants to investigate. Bianca is not a huge fan of cats and dogs, and would much prefer to be the queen of the household. If you are interested in meeting Bianca, please fill out an adoption application (no obligation) online at www.satchelslastresort.org, and an adoptions counselor will be in touch.

** SPECIAL NEEDS - STRANGER DANGER ** Hi, I'm Brittany and I don't much care for strangers. I see all strangers as a potential threat and it takes me quite some time to accept new people into my world. However, once I do I love to spend time with you and have my belly rubbed. I love car rides and will just sleep in the back seat or sit nicely looking out of the window. I don't want to share my food and would prefer you leave me alone while eating. I'm looking for an adopter who understands the need to gain my trust and is willing to visit and wait until the time is right to take me home. Brittany is estimated to be approximately 8 years old and weighs around 50 lbs. For an appointment to meet her, please email info@satchelslastresort.org or call 941-924-5070.

She loves to play with toys and run around in the yard. She is a people lover and kisses are abundant. Brooke does not care for other dogs and is looking to be your only 4 legged lover. Meet Carmen. Carmen is a big, strong girl who needs to have a competent handler. She is a stubborn girl who does not like any other animals so the abilitly to be able to control her if she sees another animal is key to keeping everyone safe. Some basic training in "wait" and "stay" would likely help with that situation. She would do best in a home with a yard where she is able to run around and play. Rolling in the grass is one of her most favorite things to do. Although animals may not be her thing, she adores people and loves one-on-one attention - you can't beat belly rubs and back scratches! Carmen likes squeaky toys and all kinds of chews. She's not overly active but plays hard for a short time - then sleeps even harder. She likes to have her nap times and would love to have your company while she drifts off to sleep. If you are interested in meeting Carmen, please complete the adoption application (no commitment) found on our website, www.satchelslastresort.org, and an adoption counselor will be in touch with you.

A volunteer senior favorite at Satchel's is 10 year old Cookie (although she's full of energy and you'd never guess her to be 10). Cookie has spent many holidays at Satchel's - many Christmases, many Halloweens, many Thanksgivings and many, many of them all - but Cookie still Believes. Believes her person is out there and that they will come for her soon. This girl is beautiful inside and out. She adores people, loves her playtime and then is a snuggle bunny when the day is done. She is not looking to share her home with any other pet, and so is looking for a family who wants to share all their love with only her. Could you be the one to make her dreams come true? If so, please complete the adoption application (no commitment) and we'll set up an appointment for you to come by and fall in love with Cookie.

He's a little uncertain of new people and does take a little time to warm up but once he knows you're a friend, he's an absolute lover. He is good with some dogs and loves to run and play in the yard with his kennel mate. Cooper has spent very little, if any, time in a home and needs a patient, loving, adopter to teach him house manners and show him what a loving home is all about. He would be so happy to say "good morning" to his own person every day in his very own home. What a wonderful Christmas present for Cowboy! It takes Cowboy a little time to warm up to new people but once he knows you, he gives the sweetest little kisses and cuddles. He loves getting out and running in the yard and then waiting for some belly rubs when yard time is over. He loves his toys and is neat and tidy in his kennel. * Medical Special Needs * Meet Crystal. What do you see when you look at Crystal? An overbred momma dog? A dog that had a horrible person chop off her ears? A dog that was left inside a crate at an abandoned property? You know what we see? Unconditional love, this girl wants affection and love so badly. She craves to be told she is a good girl, a warm leg to lean on. She is beautiful to us both inside and out. You will see that too when you come meet her and give her a chance. She enjoys a bath and belly rub, hugs and a romp in the yard but her favorite thing to do is hang out with people who love her.  Sometimes it will take her a little while to warm up to new people, but the wait is so worth it. She is just a big love bug. She is not fond of other dogs. She can go for walks with them but not exist together in a house or come face to face. She is obsessed with cats so if you are interested in her, you can't have any of those either. She does have cancer (cutaneous hemangiosarcoma). It manifests itself with sores and blood blisters on her stomach and these will pop occasionally and bleed. Eventually the disease will go to her spleen. Her survival can be a few years with this type of cancer by the time it has spread to the spleen. Are you the person to love and provide care for Crystal for her remaining years? If so, please email adoptions@satchelslastresort.org or call 941-924-5070 for an appointment to meet her.

Harley is so ready to find his forever family! At six years old, Harley has grown up at Satchel’s and has become a volunteer favorite. Harley is incredibly smart and loves having a job and learning new skills. He completed 6 weeks of agility training and loved the high energy exercise. He looks forward to attending his weekly doggie playgroup sessions at a local dog training studio, having so much fun that he pretty much passes out for the night when he returns to the shelter. Harley is sweet and affectionate, adores car rides and meeting new people. He enjoys exploring the outdoors, especially fenced-in back yards so he can chase lizards and bugs. He would do best in an adult, dog savvy household with no other pets or perhaps a large submissive female dog! In order for Harley to continue enjoying his doggie playgroup sessions after adoption, LEADSRQ, is sponsoring Harley with a $300 training package at K9 Korral. Thank you LEADSRQ! Howard here. Everyone tells me what a handsome boy I am and I'm really hoping you have room in your home for a handsome guy. I like to play, give kisses and cuddle. I don't do too well walking on a leash - I like to pull - as I haven't had much experience in that area. Perhaps you can help me out with that? I am, however, a great car rider. Children tend to scare me so I do need a home with no little ones please. Howard weighs approximately 50 lbs and is guessed to be about 6 years old. *SPECIAL NEEDS - TRIPOD* Hi, I'm Ilean. It's been a couple of years since I lost my canine "big brother" and I really wish I could find a family of my own now please. Wilbur and I were in a home together and then came to Satchel's together many, many, years ago. Wilbur took care of me since I was a little puppy. I'm now looking for human companionship with a new family.   I may only have 3 legs but that doesn't slow me down much. I have a ton of energy and happily bounce around on my 3 legs. I love my walks, although I am slowing down in my old age and can no longer walk very far. I enjoy playing fetch with the ball (although I don't necessarily bring it back to you every time, I just want you to come and get it from me), and absolutely love love love jumping in the water in the tubs we have here at Satchel's. And, of course, car rides are high on my list. Belly rubs are great and I'm sure I would enjoy lounging around with you given the opportunity.   Wilbur was the only dog I ever wanted in my life so I'm looking for a home with no other dogs (or for that matter, no other 4 legged species). Do you have the perfect home for me where I will be showered with love and kisses throughout my senior years, please, please?? I'm waiting...   Ilean is 10 years old and weighs approximately 50 lbs. ** MEDICAL SPECIAL NEEDS ** Merry Christmas from Kelly! Kelly was asking Santa here for a home for Christmas. Do you think you can help her out? Kelly is guessed to be 5 years old and has already spent 3 Christmases at Satchel's. She has so many volunteer fans who don't understand why she is still at the shelter because she is so loving. It could be that her body is unable to keep her kidney values stable without some help from subcutaneous fluids. We don't really know why but with her twice a week flulid supplements, her values remain stable. Our vet doesn't believe this will, in any way, shorten her life or cause her any pain as long as she continues to get her fluids. She patiently stands for the 15 minutes it takes to give them to her. So should this really be why she has to live out her life at a shelter? Please consider opening up your heart and home to Kelly and give yourself an amazing Christmas present in 2020. A present that should go on giving for many, many years. Kelly weighs approximately 55 lbs and is guessed to be 5years old. For an appointment to meet her, please email adoptions@satchelslastresort.org or call 941-924-5070.

Introducing Lincoln! At 2 1/2 years old, Lincoln is such a smart, inquisitive boy who enjoys investigating the great outdoors on long walks or yard time. He knows all of his commands (sit, down and stay) and is so eager to please his person. Lincoln will thrive with an active person/family who will take him running, exploring or perhaps even train him for agility. Due to Lincoln’s age and activity level, we think he would be best suited for a household with children ages 12+. He is social with other dogs but is dog selective. We would require several successful meet and greets with any possible canine siblings. Lincoln loves people and always wants to be around them and as such, he sometimes shows signs of slight separation anxiety by whining or barking when he is apart from those he loves. Come meet Lincoln today and see if he is your perfect match! Please fill out an adoption application (no obligation) at www.satchelslastresort.org, and an adoption counselor will be in touch.

Meet Macho! Macho spent several years at Satchel's waiting for his forever home until he recently went home with a volunteer as a short term foster to see how Macho adapted to being in a home. Seems he loves being in a home and is absolutely no trouble. Don't let the skin condition around his eyes deter you from meeting this sweet boy. The eye meds we use every day and the special food for allergies keeps the condition under control. He loves playing with his people - staff call him "a silly boy" as he tries so hard to get you to rough house and play with him. He doesn't want to share your attention and so would prefer to be the only pet in the home. Macho loves going on car rides and walks well on a leash. Macho is estimated to be 10 years old and weighs approximately 55 lbs. This boy would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE a family to call his own. Maybe even a pool to have some swimming time? She's very affectionate and enjoys lots of petting when playtime is over. Meeka doesn't want to share her family with other pets so being the only four-legged member of the family is the ideal home for her. * SPECIAL NEEDS - PROTECTIVE, STRANGER DANGER * Hey there I'm Mickey! I'm an 8 year old boy. Some of my best friends could tell you just how loyal and loveable I truly am. I'm so loyal that when around my favorite people, I want to protect them. I would love someone who will keep me as active as my age would allow, as I do love to go for walks and even love to swim! Stranger danger is a term that my friends might use to describe me but it's really because when I love you, I want to protect you and my space from other people! I would want to protect you even from your friends, so keep in mind I would likely need my own room of a big comfy crate to hang out in if you have company over. I could potentially live with another submissive dog, but we would have to meet and form a friendship first. I would be best in a home with no kids. My favorite activities include exploring new places (where they're aren't many people), swimming in safe places (even a kiddie pool) and going on car rides! I also love to get pet and receive love from my best friends. I would want to meet you a few times before I would be comfortable with you, but if you give me treats, throw my toys for me, and come on a few walks, I'm sure we would become great friends. I really hope you'll come meet me, and don't mind that I require a little patience. Hope to meet you soon! Love, Mickey *Mickey has extreme protective tendencies and would need to be in a home where no one comes in and out of the home without a careful introduction. It will take several visits to the shelter for Mickey to feel comfortable with you.

BONDED PAIR! Misty and Ralph are at Satchel's waiting for their next and forever family to come and pick them. This lovable pair are happy-go-lucky, loving every minute of life despite what they have been through for the past year. They had a happy homelife until their person passed away and they found themselves in a loveless home, spending day after day in a small room with nothing to do, no windows to look out and no human companionship. Ralph loves squeaky toys, blankets, rugs to roll all over and treats. Misty loves to lounge around, snuggle with people and blankets. Both love people and are friendly with everyone they meet. They walk well on leash and enjoy running free in our large play yard. Although they don't mind spending some time alone, they are bonded and we often see them snuggling in the same crate. We are told that Ralph is likely 11-12 years old and Misty 9 years old but they do appear somewhat younger. If you're looking for a pair of bonded senior dogs, please consider meeting Misty and Ralph. * SPECIAL NEEDS - PARALYZED BACK END * Several weeks ago, Satchel’s got a call from a neighboring county shelter about a sweet girl in need. Poppie is guessed to be about a 6 year old terrier mix and is paralyzed from the waist down. We aren’t sure what caused her injury but it’s not stopping her. Since her arrival at Satchel’s, Poppie has caught the eye of volunteers and staff who are always there to support her special need. In the first month of her arrival she has been given her personal wheelchair, stroller, car seat, drag bag and has a massage therapist making visits. Poppie is a vibrant social girl who loves spending time with her human companions. She is very treat motivated with one of her favorite treats being the homemade frozen peanut butter yogurt treats she gets from her favorite volunteer. Poppie seems to be okay with some dogs and could possibly live with a cat. Poppie’s perfect home would be with someone who spends a lot of time at home and sees her abilities, not her disability.

Submit the adoption application (no commitment) found on our website, www.satchelslastresort.org, and adoption counselor will get back to you to set up an appointment.

Riley is that special gem of a dog who bonds deeply with her person. She’s a very strong girl and she’ll want to be the only dog in the household, but once she connects with you; you’ll fall for her quirky, sweet personality. Her previous life was a difficult one, but her time at Satchel’s has helped her decompress and know what it feels like to be loved. Riley will thrive with a dog savvy family, and will lead the way on long hikes and be your co-pilot in the car. She adores squeaky toys, tater tots and milk bone biscuits, and she’ll show you her love by planting sloppy kisses on your cheek. Riley is approximately 3-4 years old and weighs about 75 pounds. If you’d like to meet her for yourself, please fill out an adoption application online (no obligation) at www.satchelslastresort.org, and an adoption counselor will contact you.

Senior
Hey I'm Rosey and I'm looking for someone to love me for the rest of my days. I'm a senior girl at 12 years old but I still have a lot of spunk and so much love to give. I absolutely love people and wiggle my crooked little tail whenever anyone pays attention to me. On a hot summer day, I love playing with the water as it comes out of the hose. I like short walks but my most favorite thing to do is going for car rides. Car ride, car ride, car ride - YES PLEASE! I'll ride around with you all day if you'll let me. A canine companion is okay as long as they are nice to me and let me lick their face. Oh, and don't take the front passenger seat of the car as I do like to ride shot gun! Are you looking for a co-pilot, I'm here! Rosey is a laid back, easy going girl patiently waiting for her own bed in a loving home. For more information or to schedule an appointment to meet Rosey, please email adoptions@satchelslastresort.org or call 941-924-5070.

Rumor is an active young dog who was born in January of 2015. She came to Satchels from animal services who found her as a stray. She loves attention and is very affectionate. She also loves to play with toys. We are currently working on her leash manners. She will require further training to make her the perfect dog. She does like to play with other dogs but should be the only canine in the family.  If you would like more information about Rumor, please call or email us.

* MEDICAL SPECIAL NEEDS - DISTEMPTER SURVIVOR * Scarlett is a most precious resident at Satchels, she is adored by all who see her smile. Scarlett had distemper as a puppy which has resulted in life long neurological issues. That means nothing to her, Scarlett is a spunky heartthrob. She’s quirky, loves other animals and people. With her condition she has a special way of communicating and is always up for a chatter. In her previous home we were told she was picked on by the other pups but her she has come out of her shell and she is running with the best of them! A bigger, older puppy would be the perfect playmate for her as she sometimes plays with her mouth. An adult only home would be best for Scarlett since her talking can sometimes be a little rambunctious. She does require help with potty training and needs a home where someone is home most of the time. She hasn’t caught the hang of how to sit or those basics yet, but she will come to you quicker than anyone you know and listens very well to no! Once you see her spinning with joy for you, you won’t want to spend another day without her! Scarlett is 2 years old and weighs approximately 45 lbs. For an appointment to meet her, please submit the adoption application (no commitment) found on our website, www.satchelslastresort.org, and an adoption counselor will be in touch.

Meet Stone. Stone has been at Satchel's for a little over 6 months now. Surrendered to us through Beach Vet by his owners who felt he was just too much for them to handle. It takes a few visits with Stone for him to start to earn your trust but this boy is worth the effort. He's a handsome, strong, energetic, young boy with so much life to live. Stone loves to play fetch with tennis balls, but hasn't quite caught onto the entire game - dropping them for you doesn't currently happen so you need to have several. He loves playing "catch me if you can in the yard" with you, but he is just learning how to play with people and can get wound up quickly, so it is important to keep some level of calmness until he knows how to calm himself. He likes to go on walks with our volunteers, and walks well on a leash, but is very unsure of everything outside of his immediate environment so won't travel far from the shelter. Stone loves all toys, his favorite being the Kong. He will chew on one all day, even if it's empty. Throws it around his kennel, carries it outside with him and brings it back in. He is starting to show affection as he learns to trust. He will come and sit next to you and will lick your face to say "thank you for saving me". Stone is still very scared of most things. This young boy needs encouragement and socialization. If you have the time and patience to give Stone what he needs so he is able to become the best boy he can be and enjoy life to the fullest, please set up an appointment to meet him. Email adoptions@satchelslastresort.org or call 941-924-5070.

* SPECIAL NEEDS: STRANGER DANGER. Tonka is an incredibly energetic girl who is very eager to please. While she can be excitable, she wants nothing more than attention from those she loves. She can be a little leery of strangers but once she trusts you she will win your heart with her giant ears and exuberant personality. Tonka knows basic commands and walks well on the leash once her initial excitement over the prospect of going for a walk diminishes. Her absolute favorite toy is a Jolly Ball Romp-and-roll which she can swing around for hours. Once playtime is over, she easily settles down for a cuddle. Tonka would do well in an active home with structured training. She will require an adult only home where she can be the only four-legged member.  Tonka is 8 years old. For an appointment to meet her, please email adoptions@satchelslastresort.org or call 941-924-5070.

Handsome Tucker! Tucker is extremely smart and knows all his obedience commands. He loves to learn and be rewarded so continued training in a home can be made a fun and happy time. He's rides well in a car and is always excited when it's his turn for a car ride. Once the initial excitement of a walk is over, Tucker walks well on leash and enjoys a nice long walk. He is young boy with a lot of energy and would do best if he had a yard in which to run and play or some type of doggie sports such as agility or fly ball to keep him mentally and physically challenged. He enjoys the kiddie pools at the shelter and would likely enjoy swimming. He has a canine girlfriend at the shelter and would enjoy a canine sibling. Once play time is over, he's happy to snuggle with you. Tucker is estimated to be approximately 2 years old. For an appointment to meet him, please email adoptions@satchelslastresort.org or call 941-924-5070.

* SPECIAL NEEDS - SOME STRANGER DANGER * Look at this handsome boy! Watson is a big boy who just wants to be a dog. He's an interesting dog in that he loves some people at first site and others not so much so introducing him to strangers can be a little difficult. He would do best in a home with low traffic where he can get to know and trust the people coming through his territory. Watson is strong minded and needs a dog savy person. He likes to sit on your lap and is very affectionate but he doesn't care to be smothered in any way or have people in his face. He likes to play with ropes and chewy toys and sits like a perfect gentleman in the car. This boy is looking for someone to bond with who understands him. He'll be your loyal companion for life if you're the one for him. Watson is guessed to be 6 years old and weighs approximately 70 lbs. For an appointment to meet him, please email adoptions@satchelslastresort.org or call 941-924-5070.
