Benefits: dogs are den animals; the crate acts as a den/safe space, can help with potty training young pups and it gives them an escape from chaos and a way for us to ensure they’re not getting into things when we’re unable to actively supervise.
Just like a baby that has a crib or a kid who has their own room, a dog can have their own crate to relax in. This should never be used as a punishment.
There are so many different options, it may feel overwhelming at times to find the ”right” one, what’s most important is very simple, the dog should be able to stand up, sit down and fully turn around.
By encouraging down-time in the crate, offering mentally stimulating items in crate & making it a positive experience, the result can be a well adjusted dog, comfortable while in and more confident while out.
