If you see any Boerboel pups in your neighborhood, there is a chance that Big,Gentle Ben here is their baby daddy. Ben was a breeding dog and even though he is a sweet, cuddly – if slightly droopy boy, he was no longer useful to his breeder because of his urgent need for medical care. So, she put him in her car, drove to a different county and gave him up as a stray. His microchip was her undoing and Ben became an owner surrender – not a good designation at almost any shelter and especially not at a crowded county one. Ben has a big mass on his neck – but he’s such a nice dog that the county shelter called us to see if we would help him. We said yes.
With your support this Satchel’s Giving Day, the mass will be removed and biopsied and then, we’ll do whatever we need to ensure that Gentle Ben can spend a peaceful retirement here in Florida in a home with a family who loves him.
