Our hearts are heavy again this week as we had to say goodbye to another beloved Satchel’s feline family member, Merlin. Merlin joined our family in the summer of 2017. He was a stray cat hanging out near one of our foster family homes looking for food – for a long time. It didn’t take much to convince him to hop into the trap and join us in the nice comfortable cat room here at Satchel’s. Last Tuesday, Merlin let us know his battle with cancer had come to end. He had nothing left with which to fight. Rest in peace sweet boy, you will be missed by everyone who knew you.
Below is a tribute to Merlin from our cat room staff member Gunther:
So we found out the other day that Merlin (aka Magic Man) liked car rides. Unfortunately it was his last one and it ended at Beach Veterinary Clinic where he was given relief from his long and hard-fought battle against cancer. He was all heart that cat, tough as nails, and angel sweet. He was diagnosed sometime last year and since that time had overcome quite a few ups and downs. He went to the vet about 8 months ago in such bad shape that I didn’t think he’d come back, but he proved me wrong with his big ol’ heart and his zest for life. I will miss him dearly and the tears roll as I write this. He was my buddy, along with so many others. I’ll miss him “helping” me clean litter boxes, which he did every day. He was definitely one of the “special” ones. I know we will meet again one day and until then I will cherish his memory while he runs free with the rest of his buddies that went before him. Enjoy being pain free and whole again, thank you for the lessons and the love dear boy.
