Heartworms kill a great number of dogs. In fact, the American Heartworm Society reports that more than one million dogs currently have heartworm disease. They also report that heartworm is a serious canine and feline health concern that threatens animals in all 48 contiguous states and Hawaii, as well as throughout the temperate regions of the world. April is Heartworm Awareness Month.
As April comes to a close, here at Satchel’s we currently have 4 dogs with heartworm disease.
Hondo will have his last treatment in 3 weeks.
Nalah has finished the necessary antibiotics prior to starting treatment and her first treatment is scheduled for Friday.
Presley has another 2 weeks of antibiotics prior to starting treatment.
Breaker, whom we pulled from Sarasota County Animal Services yesterday, will start his antibiotics in a day or so and will be ready to undergo his first treatment in a month.
Heartworm disease kills! If you detect it soon enough, your dog can undergo treatment – it’s expensive, a lengthy process and extremely unpleasant for your dog. There is no treatment for feline heartworm. Please don’t take the chance of your pet getting heartworm disease. Prevention is so easy.
