Nellie came to us when her owner’s living situation changed and she could no longer care for her. This happy-go-lucky girl was quite the social butterfly at the shelter and loved spending lots of time with our staff and volunteers. However, when Nellie started showing signs of difficulties walking, our veterinarians diagnosed her with a need for a cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) surgery, an orthopedic procedure to stabilize the knee joint and restore mobility after a ligament tear. Given the extensive recovery period required after such surgery, we recognized that a shelter environment might not be ideal for Nellie’s healing.
That’s when Gina and Vince stepped in to foster this sweet girl. Once Nellie was on the mend and showing positive signs of recovery, they started taking her on long walks. During these outings, they noticed that Nellie was a bit reactive toward other dogs they encountered on the street. To address this, they collaborated with Morgan Vander Woude of Rightway Rover, who provided them with effective training techniques. Thanks to their hard work and dedication, Nellie soon discovered the joys of spending time at a local dog beach! With all the love, support, and companionship that Gina and Vince provided, it wasn’t long before they realized that Nellie should officially become a member of their family. Congratulations to Gina, Vince, and Nellie on this wonderful new chapter together!
