After 7 years at Satchel’s, Cooper is in his forever home with his new family which includes both human and canine siblings!
Being extremely shy and fearful of strangers, Cooper didn’t get a lot of requests for meet and greets from potential adopters. The few times we introduced him to “strangers” looking to perhaps adopt him, Cooper made it very clear, he wasn’t having any of it and preferred to hang out with his friends at Satchel’s. Always a sidekick to his former kennel mate and companion, Cooper was suddenly alone when his former buddy passed away. In need of new friends and socialization, Cooper entered our Woof Pack program, and began accompanying Kathy to her home for visits and long walks in her neighborhood so he could get used to the world outside of Satchel’s. Knowing Cooper was also fearful of men, Kathy practiced introducing him to her husband, Michael, and rewarded Cooper with homemade roasted chicken pieces which Cooper loves. Cooper blossomed under the guidance of his Woof Pack leader Kathy and after many months of steady progress, Kathy felt Cooper was ready to attend one of Satchel’s adoption events, taking him to a weekly morning Farmer’s Market. Cooper surprised everyone by how comfortable he felt meeting new people in a brand-new environment. He became a regular at the market and in March met a wonderful family hoping to have Cooper join their crew. After a few weeks of introductions at the shelter, Cooper went home with Jenn and Mike and their family.
Now several weeks after that day at the shelter when we all cried happy tears as we said goodbye to Cooper, updates are that Cooper is living his retirement dream that he didn’t even know he had. He loves to take the 45-minute drive with Jenn dropping the kids off at school and is enjoying the king-sized mattress Jenn and Mike have put in the bedroom for him when he’s not having family time with his human siblings or playing with his canine siblings.
We never say never! There’s a home out there for every one of our cats and dogs and we never give up looking. Thank you to adopters who are willing to give these babies a chance at love in their own home.
