This poor soul was found as a stray by the Pet Resource Center of Hillsborough County. We do not know his whole story, but we do know he is lucky to be alive. He was brutally attacked by another animal (most likely another dog). It is possible that he was used as a bait dog. Unfortunately, we will never know.
The Pet Resource Center reached out to Satchel’s Last Resort for help so that Harvey could continue his journey toward a better life. Harvey has been a very cooperative patient, despite the pain that he has suffered. When found, he had a horrible infection and his decaying flesh had attracted flies that then produced maggots. Sections of Harvey’s skin continued to sluff off until the infection was under control. Harvey’s ear has been chewed almost clean off. From the wound on his face, you can see the inside of his mouth. While he may never look the same way again, this tenacious pup has a heart of gold and a strong desire to live.
As if that is not enough for Harvey, today we received results from the heartworm test that our veterinarian clinic Beach Veterinary Clinic ran. Harvey is heartworm positive.
Harvey needs time to heal both emotionally and physically from his wounds and to be treated for heartworm disease. Thanks to our amazing donors, Satchel’s can give Harvey that time. This boy is in the last chapter of that book and we are here to help him start a new book.
If you would like to help with Harvey’s care and help Satchel’s save the lives of others who will come after Harvey, please donate through the Flanzer Trust, https://flanzertrust.org/, identifying Satchel’s as your charity of choice, to have your donation doubled.
